Yarjerit "earbender" Daar's intro story, just before the campaign's start.

by Daar Yarjerit

  • Hi, I’m Daar! How are you doing?

  • Grumph…

  • Oh, are you in a foul mood? I can play you some music if you want. Any favorite stories?

  • Grum-mph.

  • OK. Let’s go with mine then!

  • A long long time ago, a little baby was born in a big big family. It was a cold night, and her mommy still liked the child, but it was the last to come after six bigger brothers and sisters, and by now she managed the birth as a routine. The baby had apparently being kind enough to get out in the middle of the day, so the family could say hi in the evening.

Nala and Kriv Yarjerit (My/Daar’s parents) were of course the first ones near the child, that day and all other days. They were nice although strict and a bit absent. Work is important and they had many tasks to attend to.

The younger ones of the siblings lived at home and got to meet Daar quite soon. They ranged from 3 to 12 years old and all gave the newborn a kiss on the forehead, as was tradition. Daar would see them a lot daily, and learn her first words and abilities around them.

The older siblings were all away, working and living their lives as important people of this or another city. Like the parents they were busy, but they still made an appearance some time during the week, and subsequently to each family dinner at the beginning of new months. Daar grew up very fond of them all. They took her with them on adventures, be it looking at how they would cook a good meal or which books were full of secrets in the library. Sometimes they would even bring Daar out, but not that often. Daar enjoyed being in the big house. It received guests, not only from within the family but also from the city’s nobility. It was all very exciting.

The parents grew a bit tired of seeing Daar always around, and they put her up for music lessons. She could be useful that way, by giving the house guests’ some entertainment…

  • Am I boring you? You seem asleep…

  • Grrrmmpphhh…

  • I can tell you about my siblings if you want?

  • Grmmophhhzzzzz...

  • First there are the twins, Shedinn and Torinn. They are the oldest of us all. Mom and Dad are proud of them, since they both have good jobs in Waterdeep. Torinn is working at the port of Waterdeep, he has had several years in charge of a dock there. He always wants to teach me about how a boat is made and sails, how one repairs them. It’s quite interesting! Shedinn serves the Lords’ council with administrative things. He gathers information and organizes meetings about the city’s issues. He isn’t very fun, but he always seems the most informed.

After them, came Donaar. He is the most amazing of my siblings. I don’t see him very often, because he is traveling a lot. He grew up to play music and is constantly travelling the region near Waterdeep to give concerts. The city has an orchestra with only the best players, and Donaar goes around with them. When I was around 5, the group got invited to play further south, and he had stories to tell for years about all he saw. I wish I’ll have as much to tell when I come back home!
Kriv and Nala (daddy and mommy) Yarjerit are both professors in the university of Waterdeep. They know a lot of other teachers and we (the children) were all encouraged to follow the thing we were best at. My problem was that I didn’t really ever liked one thing... There are so many nice things to do in this world!

After Donaar, the first girl of the family was born. Jheri is 12 years older than me. She was the first to find a passion for fighting. Biri is 8 years older than me and is very much like her big sister. The two were often in fights as kids, and I loved to watch and tell the story when mom or dad asked me about it. They were great at it, and I could see how they got better at their weapons of choice over time. Bizarrely they didn’t always like me to tell my stories around… Nowadays, Jheri and Biri serve on the city watch. I love to ask them about their work. The city is safe with them, it’s best with city residents protecting it!

Korinn is the third girl. She is five years older than me. She has mastered some magic, and helps my brother Shedinn on the city council’s administration. He is great at the political maneuvers, but she knows how to put into effect some tough decisions. She once told me of the importance of sealing a building when some attack happened in order to investigate in peace.

Some years ago, I slowly got into a nice group of people. I was playing a lot of music and was telling stories - not always true, but who cares? - about my family. People listened and some even gave me money because they liked it… but my parents didn’t like that at all. They told me I had become a beggar! I was so ashamed! They more and more pushed me away in order to not disgrace the house too much. I had to find places to play a bit deeper in the city. I began observing from the sidelines during excursions, playing on town squares when in need of money and only go home sporadically.
Tam Zawad’s group ended up noticing me and recruiting me. I learned about the Harpers, but I shouldn’t tell too much, they are semi-secret. But don’t worry, they work for good!

I learned the profession of bard there, but they soon sent me away to learn a bit more on the road and do good. It seems that there is still some bad influence that can happen if I stay in Waterdeep. The previous leader was corrupted and the old ones are still not all reliable. But I’m with them for good. See this emblem, here, on my harp, and that one, on my necklace?

    Zzzzzzzzzz...

I guess I should play a bit of background music next time, but with my drums, not my harp… Well, it’s probably for the best. Let’s continue north! I heard it has lots of snow! I definitely want to be in icy lands and do snow angels more often! The north must be beautiful!
