Pakhrani Desert
Pakhrani Desert
The Hope That Is Hidden
Nestled below south of the Hayitese Mountains, the Pakhrani Desert is the ancestral home of the Ankhana that came to Duende. It is a harsh, unforgiving landscape of rolling dunes and blistering heat that was once buried beneath the oceans. When the continental shift that created the Hayitese Mountains occured, it raised a significant portion of the seabed. When the ocean waters receded what was left in their wake was a featureless sea of salt-laden sand that extended south to what was once the continental shelf where the dunes abruptly end. The ridge of the continental shelf drops off several hundred feet to the ancient rocky seabed below known as the Deep Plateau; so named for the giant rock outcroppings and deep canyons formed from ocean currents.
While the Ankhana have settled much of the fertile flood plains flanking the Zhad'hinal River. Yet, despite centuries of efforts, the Hrassehra have yet to make any serious in-roads into the deep desert, primarily having tamed only a few miles on either side of the flood plain. It is often remarked that the desert will hold on to what belongs to it, and that certainly seems to be the case as year after year the desert sands are blown into the river basin only to be washed away with the next flood.
Pakhrani Desert: Flora
Flora
Despite the harsh conditions, the desert is not without its life. The floodplains flanking the Zhad'hinal are lush and green, boasting a wide variety of hardy plant life. Dense reeds line the river banks and a variety of fruit trees provide food and welcome shade from the intense desert heat. (TBC...)
Pakhrani Desert: Fauna
Fauna
Life in the Pakhrani is hard, yet, life finds a way. While the rivers and its surroundings are home to many of the species that inhabit the desert, even out in the deep desert there is life to be found. (tbc...)
