The Manse

The Manse is the ancestral home of the Laird of McNaughton and seat of power for the McNaughton Clan. The house is also the largest residence in the town of Uig.
The Manse was once the center of social life in Uig and the region as a whole. Lavish parties, important visitors, and great events were the norm. An invitation to an event was worth a pretty piece of gold. Attendance was a mark of honor and prestige. The McNaughton Clan held sway throughout the Glen Conon region. The house was both a manor and a family home, as the Lairds had generally large families. 
Following the death of Aoife, Lady McNaughton, the Laird Seamus McNaughton became scarce around town and seemed to spend most of his time holed up in The Manse. The Laird allowed fewer and fewer visitors. The last visitors from town to the Manse remarked that the house and grounds seemed run down and unmaintained. Many wrote this off due to the depression that took the Laird after his personal loss. Over the last few years, the people of Uig have noticed strange and unusual events occurring in The Grove and around The Manse. Strangers and secretive types have been seen on the road to The Grove, moving around in the Grove, and near the house. These goings-on take place particularly at night.

Alterations

The House has undergone numerous improvements, alterations and additions over the years. The second and third floors were added as well as several outbuildings.

Architecture

The Manse is a three story home with a finished basement that houses a wine cellar and storage. The house can accommodate many guests, but normally only the Laird of McNaughton and his immediate family occupy the structure.

History

The first Laird of McNaughton began construction on the house during the early years of the town of Uig. The McNaughton Clan were early inhabitants and settlers of the shore area around Uig Bay. After laying claim to The Grove, the first Laird built a home for his family and other clan members.
