Orin Greyward

Grand Corvus Orin Greyward

Orin is a wizard from Ravenmoor who left his hometown in search of a way to stop magic from fading out of Alen'dal. Unfortunately, he and his companions were corrupted by the fell influence of Orochi before they could complete their mission. Under Orochi's control he founded a pair of organizations known as the Eyes of the World, which worked to extend her influence beyond the Elderhaven Reaches, and the Hands of the World, which served as the ruling faction of the Elderhaven Reaches for a short time.

Personal history

Orin grew up on the streets of Ravenmoor, but a kindly wizard took him in and trained him in the arcane arts. When the old wizard died, Orin inherited their tower and the title of Grand Corvus, the high wizard of Ravenmoor. He served the people of Ravenmoor in his capacity as Grand Corvus for many years, but when he tried to take on an apprentice he realized that the arcane weave that wizards tap into to cast their spells had started ebbing. For the moment practiced wizards like himself were still able to access its power without trouble, but his apprentice was never able to produce more than the most basic of spells.   Foreseeing a future where the art of wizardry was all but lost to Alen'dal, inviting monsters who ruled over the mortal races of the world in the Age of Tyrants to return, Orin decided to set out with a group of companions in search of a solution. In Ferindel he begged King Augustus Jerome, Queen Anastasia Elise, and the Assembly of Eight to aid his cause, but they turned a blind eye to his concerns.   Unable to find a solution in any library on Freydin, Orin turned his eyes toward the Elderhaven Reaches, which history told was never subject to the tyrannical rulership of monsters like the rest of the world. However, when he and his companions finally arrived in the Elderhaven Reaches, they found that it faced its own breed of monster: evil spirits. Orin and his companions were met with some success warding off the land's evil spirits, but the life of one of his companions was claimed when they tackled the vengeful spirit inhabiting a forest known as the Forest of Death.   In an effort to restore his fallen comrade to life, Orin led his remaining companions to Mt. Seiten Monastery to seek the help of a group of Tengu monks who dwelled there. Unfortunately, upon reaching the top of the mountain, Orin found that the monastery had been abandoned save for a lone mind flayer named Quoor. Orin and his companions initially thought to slay Quoor, but they took pity on him when they learned that he had been abandoned by the rest of his kind, and allowed him to stay with them since he had a wide knowledge of Elderhaven Reaches legends, having spent years alone in Mt. Seiten Monastery's library. Learning of Orin's quest to preserve arcane tradition despite the weave of magic fading from the world, Quoor told Orin and the rest of his party about the Elderhaven Reaches tradition of blood magic, and offered to help them seek out some blood mages to learn more.   What exactly transpired when Orin went to meet the blood mages is unclear, but soon after he came under Orochi's corrupting influence and organized the blood mages under the banner of the Hands of the World, leading them in an effort to claim control over the Elderhaven Reaches. Once the Elderhaven Reaches had bowed to their leadership, Orin turned his gaze on Freydin and founded the Eyes of the World, a separate group of blood mages responsible for expanding his control outside the Elderhaven Reaches.   It was around this time when Orin put Quoor in contact with Pilzip Thimblefoot of Thimblefoot Enterprises and began developing the warforged, which were key for his plans to overthrow the Assembly of Eight and the Kingdom of Freydin. When the time was right, Orin replaced the king and queen with doppelgangers and assumed the throne of Freydin and moved his warforged army from Thimblefoot Enterprises to the basement of the royal castle. However, it was not long before the Antiheroes learned of this deception and, in a decisive battle in the throne room, slew Orin.   Fortunately, Orin and Quoor had planned for the possibility of his death and prepared clone bodies in the Elderhaven Reaches, so this untimely demise was a mere a setback for their cause. Still, he had learned a lesson of caution when it came to dealing with the Antiheroes, and he did not confront them again until they arrived at the lair of his master, Orochi. There Thaddeus used the cleansing power of his faith to remove Orochi's influence over Orin and free him from her control. Orin parted ways with the Antiheroes soon after the battle and has not been seen or heard from since.
