Suul (s-uh-l)
One of the three Primordials, Suul is the God of Sunlight and Life. Along with Luun Suul created the World of Anide, and the Gods.
Suul will often appear as a large, rotund, genderless humanoid, their dark skin glowing with soft, golden light, their eyes twin pools of sunlight, and their head wreathed in flames. In this form, Suul stands approximately 200 meters tall, and nearly the same wide. At other times they will appear as an immense burning ball of flame.
Suul is also known as the Dreamer, for it was in their dreams that they conceived of the world.
Worshippers
Being the God of Sunlight and Life, Suul worshippers can be found amongst almost all the peoples of Anide.Clergy
The Church Of The Dawnstar is the formal church of Suul worshippers. Initiates into the Church of the Dawnstar are known as "Sparks," and priests are typically known as Lightbearers. Senior members of the church are given the title "Sunburst". All members of the church wear bright yellow cloaks over deep orange frocks, with a cup-sized torch hanging from their belt. They also have a small pouch in which they keep wadding and a flint, wrapped inside an oilskin, so that may always be ever ready to light a torch, and bring light into the darkness. Many Sunbursts are often known to wear lots of gold jewelry. They claim that the reflective nature of gold helps to bring light into the world, by amplifying whatever light is available. Paladins of Suul are known as "Beacons", and often adorn their armor, and weapons with symbols of light. A typical blessing given by the followers of Suul is, "May your light burn on forever." This is not, as some people assume, a blessing or wish for immortality, but a wish that your light will burn bright enough to light others, and that their light will in turn light others, each keeping some small part of your original flame.Temples
Temples of Suul can range from the very simple, to the complex and ornate, but all have one feature in common: All Suul temples have a set of two windows designed to let in the last light of the Winter Solstice and another to let in the first light of the Summer Solstice. The light from these windows is designed to strike a clear crystal in the center of the main chamber, filling it with light. Simple temples will often be little more than this main chamber and living quarters for the clergy that runs the temple. More complex temples will sometimes have smaller windows set in the ceiling designed to capture the first sunlight of the first day of each month. The main chamber will often be a twelve-sided room, and very ornately decorated in gold.Dogma
Suul's commandments are as follows:- Illuminate the dark. Bring Light into the dark places of the world, and one's own soul.
- Cherish Life. Protect it and foster it where you can.
- Lighten the load of others. Alleviate suffering wherever you can.
Holidays
The Solstices and Equinoxes are all important Holidays for everyone, not just the worshippers of Suul. These mark important days of the yearly cycle and signal the change of the seasons. The Winter Solstice is also the first day of the New Year, Falling on the first day of the Month of The Child. A great feast is held to mark the Birth of the New Year, to celebrate the return of more sunlight, and to use the last of the fresh harvest as winter sets in. The Spring Equinox occurs on the first day of the Month of The Fool. The day is often marked with parades, fairs, and carnivals centered around Rebirth, and the Planting of Seeds. The Summer Solstice occurs on the first day of the Month of The Judge. The day typically begins by crowding into the nearest Suul temple to witness the First Light of Summer illuminate the main chamber. Later, in the evening, large bonfires are lit and celebrations last well into the night.Typically celebrated with Bonfires and a large feast, many will crowd into a Suul temple and watch as the The Autumn Equinox occurs on the first day of the Month of The Farmer. Much like the Spring Equinox, the Autumn Equinox is often celebrated with fairs and festivals, though these tend to be centered on the Harvest.Diety Type: Prime
