"Not to call myself a coward, my friends, but sometimes cowards do...in fact...survive."
The wizard known as Cilas has a long history with not only
The Followers of Nex, but with the adventuring party
The Companions as well. Born as a poor resident of
Imperia, Cilas studied hard during his youth, wanting to obtain a prominent position within
The Arcane University. While he possessed a sharp intellect and adept magical ability, Cilas' views on aspects of
The Church of Creation and Fallen
Ancients did not sit well with local authorities when he often spoke of it to the public of Imperia. To set an example, the
Crescentian Imperial Legion had the head Pyromancy Magister of the University burn Cilas' lower jaw off, leading to his disapperance for a number of years.
Cilas' next recorded appearance in
Crescentia was near
Daggervale, recruiting a number of bandits to work for
The Followers of Nex. Now acting as a member of the Follower's leadership as part of their Dark Council, Cilas worked for
Lord Remnant as their head mage, scientist, and abomination creator. He was also placed in charge of a secret project taking place in his laboratory in
The Black Sanctum codenamed "Void-Fusion", leading to the current form of
Jason Dierdre / Reaver. Responsible for the wilting of the Vale Forest a year prior to
The Kindling and the creation of a number of monstrosities used by the Followers, including
General Kross, Cilas was regarded as one of if not the most dangerous member of the Dark Council. He is also partially credited for the discovery of the true nature of
The Eclipse Stone.
According to accounts from
The Companions, the group slew Cilas in an underground temple to
Nex underneath the city of
Highwall. Cilas was able to survive, however, due to using a number of individuals he had captured previously as phylacteries, storing pieces of his essence inside them until they grew to maturity. While Dove of the Companions had a piece of Cilas inside of him, the piece was reportedly influenced by their good deeds as he eventually performed one of his own, sacrificing himself to save his host. This has led some to question what Cilas' motivations were for joining the Followers to begin with; whether it was a thirst for power or a need for companionship.
Another fragment of Cilas was present at the
Battle of the New Dawn, and used the lingering energies from
The Kindling to fashion himself a new, even more magically adept body.
Since then, Cilas has been sighted at different locations all across Arkos, having caused a massive cave in at
Yog'rukla in Velant, and venturing into the ruins beneath the
Harenae Desert. Those in contact with the mad mage believe he is gathering ingredients for a new, abominable project...
