Jason Dierdre / Reaver
"That's always been the difference between us, Vonro. Deep down, you're a good person. And deep down...I'm not."Jason Dierdre, later known as Reaver or 'The Reaver of the Broken Coast', is a void-infused human male. Once the son of nobles Robert and Bethany Dierdre on the eastern coast of the Crescent Empire, Jason's past is one consisting of much tragedy and regret. Growing up in The Broken Coast, Jason experienced a happy if somewhat sheltered childhood with his parents. That all changed during the empire's 3rd war with the Oreion Inquisition that saw Jason's hometown caught in the crossfire between the two forces. The young Jason left the Broken Coast in search of a source of power that would enable him to save his family and home. His search eventually led him to the The Followers of Nex, where the resident self-proclaimed scientist Cilas promised to give Jason the power he sought in exchange for loyalty to the Followers. What happened next was an extremely painful, horrific experience, as Jason's young form was fused with pure void essence. The only surviving subject in a line of failures, the fusion gave Jason enhanced strength, speed, and primordial darkness surging through him. Jason would forever be changed by the procedure, the memories and physical effects weighing heavy on both his body and mind. Unfortunately, his efforts was ultimately in vain, as he arrived back home too late; the war was over and both Robert & Bethany had lost their lives in the destruction. Lost, alone, and stricken with rage-fueled grief, the individual now known as Jason turned to the only "family" he had left and joined The Followers of Nex for a time. After a few years of aiding the vile cultists, Jason's rational mind slowly began to resurface out of his pool of loss, and emotions of fury were replaced with that of guilt and regret at the suffering he had helped spread. If there was a specific catalyst that triggered his change of heart, Jason has not commented on it. Fleeing from the vengeful cult, Jason would spend months wandering alone around parts of Crescentia until he would eventually encounter close friend Pace Starset, and by extension The Companions. Together with Pace Starset, Jason defended the Companions from hordes of undead during the Battle of the New Dawn. After the conflict, Jason left Crescentia on a self-imposed exile, eventually journeying to Luxurpore, where he met a commander of The Justicars, Rin Trueheart. Jason worked as Rin's partner and consultant for a couple of years, until circumstances led the two of them to assist the adventuring party known as the Sanctioned in stopping the efforts of The Holy Light and Janus. During their time with the Sanctioned, both Jason and Rin grew very close, as it was clear the two had strong romantic feelings towards one another. However, after being infected with Primordial Light energy by Janus, Rin lost all memories related to Jason. Once again consumed by grief, Jason couldn't help but blame the Sanctioned for the loss of Rin's memories, and adopted a more resentful temperament. When he was last seen, Jason expressed his goal of finding more Primordial dark energy, so that he could become stronger and "finally be what everyone needed him to be."
