The Companions
"Heroes are remembered but legends never die!" - Dagorn Balefrost, before engaging a Hobgoblin and Clay Golem by himself “I am Malachai, the Hunter, and I DO NOT miss!” - Malachai/Angel "There's always room for one more person on the front lines! What? Of course I'm a real doctor..." - Dove "A hero is anyone who puts aside personal matters and comfort in order to do what is right, no matter how painful it might be." - Stryder BlackstrandThe Companions are a group of adventurers that have been at the heart of many significant events plaguing the powerful Crescent Empire in the years 999 - 1001 3A. A heroic adventuring party that many citizens of Crescentia believe to be successors to the legacy of Mythra Crescentia's Order of the Eclipse, the party first met when the original members were being transported on board an empire prison ship. The original, still existing members of the Companions are Stryder, previously Arcano Blackstrand of the royal family of Shegoth, Dagorn Balefrost, a mercenary captain turned Silver Elf survivor, and Dove, a surviving gnome healer of the Coruscare warlands. Since its inception, other main members of the party include Andre Stoneshaper, a dwarvish omnimancer and scholar, Kal'raan, a Dragonborn ex-ravager, and Malachai/Angel, a Tiefling marksman and farseer. According to Crescent Empire nobility records, the party collectively owns a significant amount of property within the empire, including what was once a large estate in the city of Daggervale before it was destroyed, The Menagerie Manor in Highwall, and acres of land off the North East Coast of the Empire granted to them by Emperor Lunin. Other notable/honorary members of the Companions include Lt. Larson L. Larson, previous Moonguard and royal bodyguard to Emperor Lunin, and Jon the Kobolds, whom the party presumably 'adopted' from the Underdark. Fallen members of the Companions include Lenny the Ex-bandit, a heroic young man who defied his Bandit Chief Death-helm only to be slain by her, and Burnie, an Orcish Tribe Prince hailing from The Red Eye. He was slain by a rogue Inquisitor from the Oreion Inquisition. While the many deeds of the Companions have already been morphed from hearsay and bard's tales, some notable deeds performed by them include the re-discovery of the Trickfoot Treasure Trove, the eradication of Black Vein, the crowning of a new king of Brightforge and later the city's salvation from The Followers of Nex , the destruction of The Followers of Nex's leadership, and the collection of the fragments of The Eclipse Stone. What the Companions have become world-renowned for is the Battle of the New Dawn, where they fought against and banished Nex from the known realms. In doing so, they reversed the effects of The Kindling, and saved Crescentia from certain destruction. While the Companions have since gone their seperate ways, a number currently hold powerful and influential positions within the upper ranks of the Crescent Empire, assisting Empress Alora in the nation's recovery. Due to their exploits, hero work and adventuring have risen in popularity, which brings its own sets of positives and problems to Western Arkos.
