“My sister and I used to sneak in all the time to play pretend. Trust me, no one comes out here at night. And if we DO happen to get caught, well…” Rin placed her hands on her hips in a mock heroic pose. “I am a Justicar. We’re simply doing an inspection of the palace’s security. Which, I have to say, is abysmal.” She had to chuckle at herself for that one. The sound made his own smile grow wider.
Once a well regarded Commander of
The Justicars in Velant, Rin Trueheart is to many of the kingdom's subjects a shining example as to what a Justicar should be. A collected woman with a serious but courteous demeanor, Rin rarely relaxes when on duty, though she is not as cold and distant as she may appear to those who are not close to her. Friends of Rin know that beneath her professional aura is a kind soul who understands the difficulty of carrying a heavy burden.
The Trueheart family was one of the richest in Velant, having a large estate outside the capital of
Rimora. Not wanting to have life handed to her on a silver platter, Rin joined the Justicars as soon as she was able, being joined shortly after by her sister Ruth. Having been with the Justicars for over ten years, Rin started her career as more headstrong and rash; a sharp contrast from how she is known presently. Wanting to emulate her sister in most respects, Rin and Ruth were inseparable, both on and off duty.
Tragedy struck once
The Green War began, however, as both Trueheart sister were forced to fight against
The Rovers alongside Oreion's
The Veiled Hand. Distraught that her more inexperienced sister would be killed in the conflict, Rin managed to convince her sister Ruth to take on tasks during the war that would put her out of harms way, but would prevent her from helping civilians in need. Ruth was reluctant at first, but Rin convinced her by lying, stating that she herself was doing the same thing. Two days afterwards, Ruth was killed by a stray arrow from a Rover scout.
Unlike several other Justicars, Rin continued in her duties after the Green War, growing more stoic and distant from the Trueheart family. As she continued to rise in rank and skill in her work, Rin journeyed to
Luxurpore on a special assignment. There, she met
Jason Dierdre / Reaver, and with his help put an end to an illegal
The Syndicate smuggling operation. The two became close friends in due course, with Jason acting as her consultant and partner on several subsequent missions.
After taking a commanding position in the Velant town of
Cobblestone in 1006 3A, Rin met the adventuring party known as the Sanctioned. Becoming close friends with all the members, Rin assisted the Sanctioned greatly in protecting Velant and all of Arkos from threats such as
The Holy Light and the insane
Prometh Janus.
During this time, Rin also developed strong romantic feelings towards
Jason Dierdre / Reaver, though never fully expressed them. Near the conclusion of the Sanctioned's adventures in Velant, Rin was infected by Janus with Primordial Light energy, temporarily transforming into an angelic warrior known as Justice. While the Sanctioned were able to cure her and return her to normal, she lost all memories of Jason in the process, having no knowledge of her time with him or her feelings towards him. After Janus' defeat, Rin took a leave of abscence from the Justicars, claiming she needed to go and discover more about who she was apart from her job as a soldier. Promising to keep in close contact with the Sanctioned, she has not been seen in Velant since.
