Uldrid Highmore

“The Ancients abandoned them; Arbora herself turned her back on those she promised to protect! I will succeed where she and so many have failed. The vision you saw was not your nightmare...it was the Nightmaren's. Both them and I can see a greater darkness on the horizon. Don’t tell me you haven’t felt it as well. Necrosis holds a great power; one that can be used to protect my people and yours in the future. You must see that what I am doing is for the greater good.”
An old and well respected Arch-Fey of the Eladrin, Uldrid served his people as an advisor and powerful protector during the First Age. It is also said that Uldrid was quite close to Arbora herself; whatever the case, he was loyal to her cause of protecting and fostering life. When the great war of The Cataclysm began, Uldrid was horrified at the destruction the Ancients caused across The Cosmic Sea; though no event shook him more than when the fallen Ancient Somnia crashed into the base of The Realm Tree. When the resulting corruption from the newly born Necrosis claimed many of his fellow Eladrin turning them into the dark elves known as Drow, Uldrid attempted to help them, and was mortified the other Eladrin and Arbora herself had seemingly doomed them to their fate; sealing the bubbling corruption away in its own realm. Shaken after the sundering of the cosmos, Uldrid was still determined to guard against the horrors he had witnessed during the Cataclysm, knowing the darkness that now lay under the Realm Tree paled in comparison to what he had witnessed afterwards.   Due to the newly formed The Barrier of Providence, Uldrid took it upon himself to frequent the Mortal Realm, both to help those that were suffering in the chaotic aftermath, and to try and discover a way to help the Drow. Uldrid accomplished many things during this time, most notably helping to form the Cosmic Council. Trying to be successors to the Ancients’ protection of the past, the Council helped defeat the great Primordials; though this endeavour caused him to lose his staff, Dreamweaver, and weakened him severely. For years afterwards he returned to the Fey city of Celusindi in the The Realm Tree to recover. During his time of recovery, Uldrid’s weakened state caused him to become susceptible to the whispers from Necrosis. In secret, he began to visit the corrupted realm, and learned much about its inner workings and denizens. Still wanting to help the Drow, Uldrid slowly began to view the Nightmaren therein as tools rather than horrible monsters. If he could gain control of the Nightmaren and their power, he could prepare for the coming darkness and finally obtain some semblance of justice for the lost Eladrin.   In a somewhat fitting end, Uldrid was killed by Andre of The Companions during Nex's attack on The Realm Tree in 1001 3A. Driven to madness by his obsession with the Nightmaren, his surviving staff the Dreamweaver serves as a reminder that all too often the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
