Character Age
Characters are not immune to the passage of time, and age has a marked effect on them. As a character grows older, their physical characteristics begin to decline as their bodies wear out, but their mental characteristics benefit from the years of experience behind them. Different races age at different rates, as shown in the following tables.
Starting Ages
The starting age of a player character is the age at which they begin their adventuring career. Characters can begin adventuring at different points in their lives, though most decide to do so early in their adulthood. The character's class also plays a role in starting age, as some classes require more or less learning or training before a character can be considered to be a member of that class. Players can either choose their starting age or roll for it on the tables below. If chosen, it must be at least the minimum age for the character's given race and class.Classes and Training
Most classes require some level of core development prior to becoming a first level character. This development is defined at three levels: intuitive, self-taught, and trained. An intuitive class is one in which the powers and capabilities of the class come naturally, with little to no practice needed to develop. Self-taught classes are ones that require training and practice, but do not require a formal or guided education to learn the basics. Trained classes require the most thorough initiation, often over many years and with the help of veterans of the class. Classes are broken down by training as follows: Intuitive Classes: Barbarian, Bloodrager, Favored Soul, Omdura, Oracle, Rogue, Shifter, and Sorcerer. Self-Taught Classes: Bard, Cavalier, Fighter, Paladin, Ranger, Shaman, Skald, Slayer, Summoner, Swashbuckler, and Warlock. Trained Classes: Alchemist, Arcanist, Artificer, Brawler, Cleric, Druid, Hunter, Inquisitor, Investigator, Magus, Martial Artist, Monk (Shan Lun and Astoran), Warpriest, and Wizard.Core Race Starting Ages

Aging Effects
As most characters grow older they undergo changes, both mentally and physically. Physical capabilities decline as their bodies grow weak and frail with time, and their mental capabilities benefit from the benefit of years of experience. Characters generally fall into one of five categories of age, depending on their race: childhood, adulthood, middle age, old, and venerable. A character's maximum age is always rolled in secret by the DM once a character reaches venerable age. When a character reaches that age, they gain the understandin that they are near their end, and will die of old age sometime in the next year. The following tables give the age thresholds for each playable race, and the effects that those thresholds have on a character.Core Race Age Thresholds
