Fane of Black Hematite
The Fane of Black Hematite is a hidden shrine of unknown origin in the Horukzul Caverns of the Iron Range. It is closey tied to the nearby Fane of the Fire Egg.
The large hematite stone at the fane's center previously held a Karakura. It was imprisoned there until the stone was broken and the karakura was killed in 5A 178 by Luyos, Krummer, and Daelee.
On 23 Sedaena 5A 178, Luyos and Krummer chased Daelee as she fled to the Fane of Black Hematite. The karakura trapped them with shadow flames and compelled Daelee to attack them. In the battle, Daelee and Krummer both shook off the effects of the possession. As the karakura drained their energy, it projected part of itself into the chamber. The group defeated the fiend. At Daelee's plan, she shattered the central hematite stone, which released the karakura. They killed it, and the residual divine energies carried the banished fiend to Stygia, the Plane of Death.
Description
The Fane of Black Hematite is located within a large chamber of the sprawling Horukzul Caverns beneath the Iron Range. Outside the surface entrance, a warning reading "STOP" in red text was painted on the rocks. The shrine is mostly constructed of white, marbled stone. A domed roof is supported by eight large, fluted pillars set onto a large dais. Divine energy emanates from the center of the platform between the columns, where a plinth is set. Surrounding the fane were eight small hematite stones set into the ground around the fane by Leo, Captain of the Black Barrow. These were a part of a divine aburation spell effect set to entrap extraplanar intruders to the Fane of the Fire Egg. Any planar travel that attempted to access it would be captured and held within a large, dark hematite stone that previously had floated above the central plinth. In 5A 178, the central stone was shattered by Daelee, which appeared to end the abjuration spell set on the fane.History
The Fifth Age: The Age of Beginnings
In the early Fifth Age, the Fane of Black Hematite was created in the Horukzul Caverns, and a large hematite stone was set above the central plinth. At this time, Leo, Captain of the Black Barrow, completed an abjurative spell set around the fane. At some point, a Karakura attempted to claim the drake egg at the Fane of the Fire Egg but was abjured and captured within the hematite stone. The trapped karakura was able to affect things near to the fane, and it began charming or possessing people who came across the cavern. At some point, the karakura possessed Daelee. 5A 178On 23 Sedaena 5A 178, Luyos and Krummer chased Daelee as she fled to the Fane of Black Hematite.
