Fane of the Fire Egg

The Fane of the Fire Egg is a hidden shrine of unknown origin in the Horukzul Caverns of the Iron Range. It is closey tied to the nearby Fane of Black Hematite.   It previously held and incubated the egg of a Rage Drake formerly in the possession of Brigitte, the Grayguard, until the the egg was hatched by Luyos in 5A 178.

Description

The shrine is mostly constructed of white, marbled stone. A domed roof is supported by eight large, fluted pillars set onto a large dais. Heat, light, and divine energy emanate from the center of the platform between the columns, where a plinth is set.   Previously, a large, red-scaled egg had floated above the central plinth. According to Luyos, the overall visual of this reminded him of stories of the Heart of the Desert at Ruin's Temple.   This egg had previously been taken from Birdsong Tower by Brigitte, the Grayguard, and it was placed at the fane by her hands.   The Fane of the Fire Egg is located within a large chamber of the sprawling Horukzul Caverns beneath the Iron Range.   Surrounding the fane were eight sets of runic stones set by Leo, Captain of the Black Barrow. These were a part of a divine aburation spell effect protecting the shrine and its contents. Any planar travel that attempted to access the fane would be captured and held within the central gem of the nearby Fane of Black Hematite.   These runes also had the effect of muting the divine energy coming from the fane. The runic circle was later broken, and the stones were scattered, which released a spectral Fifi to defend the fane.   In 5A 178, several of the supporting pillars were damaged by Fifi in battle. The fane was then further damaged when a sinkhole collapsed the fane to a deeper chamber in the caverns. Despite the damage, the fane continued to emanate heat and radiant energy.

History

The Fifth Age: The Age of Beginnings
In the early Fifth Age, the Fane of the Fire Egg was created in the Horukzul Caverns, and the rage drake egg taken from Birdsong Tower by Brigitte, the Grayguard, was placed above the central plinth. At this time, Leo, Captain of the Black Barrow, completed the set of runic stones set around the fane.   At some point, a Karakura attempted to claim the drake egg at the fane but was abjured and captured within the Fane of Black Hematite.   At some point, a sinkhole formed beneath the fane caused by the possessed Daelee, which expanded until it had swallowed the structure beneath the ground and nearly engulfed the runic stones placed around it.   5A 178
On 21 Sedaena 5A 178, Luyos entered the chamber with the large sinkhole. He defeated a pair of giant rats and a large spider before he was urged to break the weakened runic stone circle.   This caused the fane to rise from the depths of the sinkhole. Luyos found the floating egg, and when he touched it, it hatched into a juvenile rage drake. The spectral form of Fifi was summoned and battled against Luyos and the drake, named Tha'theo, to prove Luyos's worth.   On 22 Sedaena 5A 178, the sinkhole reformed beneath the fane. Without the protection of the runes, the sinkhole collapsed the fane, Luyos, and Tha'theo into an active kruthik warren in a deeper cavern of the cave system.
