High Chieftain Eldrid Hrolfdottir (a.k.a. The Dragon of Blackrock)
Our time runs thin, my people - we now stand at the crossroads of destiny, where we must modernize and overhaul our entire way of life or be relegated to the dustbin of history.
Already, this choice has been presented to other cultures in this world - the dwarves, the elves, and worst of all our sand-blasted sisters, among others - and already we can see the results of inaction; Entire cultures slowly dying out, being conquered and assimilated by another, or even worse - simply being left behind as those around them so eagerly chased the future and arrived at a summit that soon seems insurmountable to those who did nothing but watch.
I know full well our weakness has always been change - it is all too easy to fall victim to our long lives and become complacent. To see the humans and other races as scurrying bugs whose affairs scarcely involve us. But like it or not, the day will come where they will bring their affairs to our shores - and if we are not prepared to meet them as societal and cultural equals, we will be destroyed.— An excerpt from Eldrid's speech given at her Coronation Ceremony into the seat of High Chieftain
Physical Description
As she only recently reached her Matron years, Eldrid is in the prime of her life - she is in fantastic physical shape(As her kind so often are), with no ailments or illnesses to speak of, and possesses a strength of body of mind as well as a nimbleness that puts her in the very mightiest percentile among Giantkind.
Her body utterly massive, Eldrid has well-earned the title of "Gigax" amongst her own species for the sheer enormity of her physicality that has caused many Giants around to quip that her home village of Blarheimr was likely destroyed "because of whatever they were feeding their young". Towering and massive, Eldrid is muscular and chiseled with a body marked by countless highly elaborate tattoos describing her greatest and most heroic deeds as well as a handful of more private information and events knows only to her - her body a veritable tapestry as is often the custom for
Dai-Yukai.
Her face appearing stoic and reserved so often that many around her often remark how "She emerged from her mother with an unimpressed grimace", Eldrid's face is reported to be quite delicate and beautiful by her own people's standards - whenever it isn't being hidden, as she seems to prefer to hide her face from her mouth up out of a rather self-conscious dislike for her own odd eye-color(A fiery orange that, according to tribal superstitions on Skaðis, is said to herald calamity).
Nonetheless, several reports over the decades have described her face(Especially her eyes), as "Strikingly beautiful" such that gasps of surprise are not uncommon to those who bear witness to her face. Often, Eldrid's lips are seen painted purple, blue, or red due to her own enjoyment of lipstick.
Most identifying to her own people is her sheer enormity - a veritable behemoth even amongst Giantkind, Eldrid utterly towers over her kin to such a degree that it is almost freakish to them; a hard metric to meet for Giants who are normally quite used to enormous beings. Otherwise, her bright and fiery orange eyes are her other most identifying feature, for generations of tribal superstitions on Skaðis speak of orange eyes to be heralds of calamity and upheaval.
Secondarily, while not as notable, Eldrid's dark blue skin is a rather unique feature - a rather uniquely dark shade of blue that few others of her species have been known to possess.
Chiefmost of Eldrid's physical quirks is her sheer size that sees her utterly tower over her kin by an incredibly noticable margin of nearly 10-20 feet on average - enough that other Giants, at their tallest, come up to just below her chest.
Beyond her sheer physical enormity is her rather unique icy carapace that often coats her skin - a nearly invisible coat of ice borne from Eldrid's habit of freezing her body after a heated battle to render the sweat coating her body into a thin sheen of durable ice that is even capable of blocking blows.
Rather famously, Eldrid has long been feared for her especially potent blizzard aura said to be strong even by the standards of her species - so powerful is her racial ability to generate snow and wind that it can even bowl over full ground adult
Humans and knock flying creatures out of the air with alarming regularity. Perhaps most feared is her ability to render herself and her allies that stay within this blizzard completely and utterly invisible - a fairly rare blessing among her people that has long given others good cause to fear her.
Otherwise, Eldrid's greatest special ability is the thickness of her skin - so durable that she has said to have stepped squarely on
Adamantine spears and broken them harmlessly against her heel, and crushed fully armored warriors in her palm without so much as a scratch. Combined with her size, and Eldrid has long held a spot as "Most unpleasant
Dai-Yukai to carry out a Banahogg" amongst her own kin - which is, despite how it sounds, something of a complement.
As is traditional for most High Chieftains of Skaðis, Eldrid wears an elaborate scaled cloak that was traditionally crafted from the scales of Sursailion - the dragon that was historically a guardian of the isle's High Chieftain in ages past before
The Jotunhunts. However, with Sursailion's forced rebirth as an Undead Dracolich in the wake of the Battle of the Blackstone Fortress and his subsequent defeat at the hands of Eldrid, the previous cloak(Which had grown quite ragged after millenia of wear and tear) has been repaired and upgraded with the spoils from the dragon's defeat; the scales which were once given sparingly by the Dragon solely on the day of the High Chieftain's coronation have sinced been plundered freely - meaning that the cloak has become an true magical relic worthy of its wearer.
In addition, Eldrid dresses typically for most
Dai-Yukai matrons - covering her chest, waist, and parts of her legs with some form of armor(In her case, a set of highly magical metallic armor) while leaving the rest of her chiseled body exposed to the elements(Especially the soles of her feet, which many
Dai-Yukai are loathe to cover in any significant capacity for various reasons). Rather uniquely, Eldrid almost universally wears armored helmets that cover her head and eyes but leave her mouth exposed - a rather unique design she requested ever since her days as an Inquisitor of the Throne to hide her striking orange eyes.
Having enhanced the scaled cloak made of the scales of the Great Wyrm Blue Dragon Sursailion after slaying the dragon following its forced rebirth as a Dracolich, Eldrid wears the symbol of her station as High Chieftain with pride as a true magical relic where before it was little more than a mundane cloak made of an exceptional material. Now, this cloak, dubbed "The Cloak of Kings", bears a host of powers and is said to even house the slumbering spirit of Sursailion itself - allowing its wielder to transform or even summon the dragon from beyond for a short period of time, as well as granting the wearer a host of other various enhancements in echo of the dragon it once belonged to.
Otherwise, Eldrid's armor is fairly well crafted and magical - a relic of her time as an Inquisitor of the Throne that has only grown stronger and more magical during her journeys across the isle with the nameless party of heroes who helped destroy the cult of
The Arch-Lich at the Blackstone Fortress and prevented the ascension of The Great White Wyrm of the Timeless Lands into Sagehood on the fields outside Baldr's Grave.
Finally, her mighty greatsword
Reunion, a powerful weapon forged in the wake of her victories at the Blackstone Fortress from her old weapon and a pair of weapons said to have belonged to her first and only partner, is said to have taken on a unique appearance after being plunged deep into the roaring necrotic heart of Sursailion - absorbing and suffusing itself within the once noble dragon's essence and drinking deep of the incorruptible Golden Lightning once said to have been immortal symbol of the dragon's power which, even now, proved incorruptible in the face of Sursailion's forced rebirth as a Dracolich by the forces of
The Arch-Lich's cult.
Mental characteristics
Eldrid's life began as a young girl - born to humble beginnings as the sickly daughter of a
Jotun woodsman in the long destroyed village of Blarheimr, Eldrid lived a relatively unassuming life that seemed largely on track to be a life of mediocrity and possibly even an earth death due to sickness that may have played out exactly in such a way if she had not been personally noticed by an Inquisitor of the Isle's previous High Chieftain during their visit to her village.
Taking notice of the sickly Eldrid's fiery orange eyes which had long ostracized her from her village, the Inquisitor took her off her father's hands in exchange for a paltry sum and took her back to Jotunngarðr, seat of the High chieftain, and put her through the notoriously brutal training to become an Inquisitor - offering the young Eldrid a chance at greatness if she "could but find the strength to claim it". And, despite all odds, claim it she did - becoming the
only successfully applicant during that year's Inquisitorial Trials and earning her full-fledged badge of office from the High Chieftain herself.
From there, Eldrid's career had a steady upward climb - slowly working her way up through the ranks of the High Chieftain's inquisitors and ravenously consuming all available opportunities to learn and study that she could find, Eldrid was eventually assigned to watch over a group of unknown heroes that had crashed landed on the isle's southern shores and had been steadily making their way north, all the while opposing the cult of
The Arch-Lich everywhere they went.
This relationship, in many ways, would define Eldrid's life from then on - growing close to that group of heroes and aiding them in their quest to dismantle the cult they stood against, Eldrid is said to have grown close to one of those very heroes and taken them as a partner before the group's battles eventually culminated in the assault on the Blackstone Fortress; long considered the unassailable fortress of the cult of
The Arch-Lich on the Isle.
Returning to her people a hero in her own right after her role in saving the isle of Skaðis(Then known as
Frozen Spire Isle) from not only the cult of
The Arch-Lich but also the reign of the fearsome Great White Wyrm that had very nearly ascended into Sagehood. Leveraging her newfound heroism, Eldrid wasted little time wresting control of the isle from her contemporaries and former boss, the High Chieftain, before ultimately being crowned the new High Chieftain almost defeating the reborn Dracolich Sursailion and her ruthless defeat of the previous High Chieftain.
Ever since, Eldrid has worked tirelessly to revitalize the isle of Skaðis as its High Chieftain - enacting countless sweeping cultural and societal reforms which have occasionally been met with rebellion(Each of which has been crushed ruthlessly beneath her heel) while also working with other prominent Giants on the isle to weave the massive magical ritual that would in time lift Frozen Spire Island out of the ocean and lift it into the sky.
Now, information in or out of Skaðis is hard to come by thanks to the difficulty in reaching the isle as it floats high in the sky - and the power of the isle's defenses in destroying those who come close.
Rather unique for a
Dai-Yukai, Eldrid is widely considered(And somewhat mocked as) a monogamous maiden who found the love of her life long ago - she is well-documented as having zero interest in romance of any kind, possibly for the rest of her life, and lives a fairly austere life.
As part of the 1% of creatures on the entire isle of Skaðis who possessed the strength of mind and body to pass the Inquisitorial Trials to serve the High Chieftain, Eldrid is extremely well educated by the standards of the isle's average denizens - well versed on many educational topics such as mathmatics, history, literature, and more.
Overcame her sickness and passed the Inquisitorial Trials to become a full-fledged Inquisitor of the Throne before she had reached maturity.
Helped the nameless band of heroes defeat the Great Wyrm Wyrm of the Timeless Lands before it could ascend to Sagehood.
Lead the united armies in the battle of the Blackstone Fortress that resulted in the destruction of the cult of
The Arch-Lich.
Slew the Dragon Sursailion after it had been forcibly reborn as a vile Dracolich by the cult of
The Arch-Lich in the aftermath of the battle of the Blackstone Fortress.
Successfully implemented several societal reforms to revitalize the isle of Skaðis, most notably "The Great Disarmament" that helped centralize power in her newly formed monarchy and bring the wild tribes of the isle into obedience beneath her throne's authority.
Earned the respect of
Aslauge Daenic and worked with her to discuss a path into the future for all Giantkind.
???
Any failures Eldrid has been a part of, if any exist, are unknown at this time.
As an
extremely well-learned woman by both Giant and Non-Giant standards, Eldrid is a stoic woman who prefers the "Wait and See" approach above all else - a woman of few words, she prefers to let her enemies act first to take advantage of weaknesses or gaps in their defenses rather than rush in rashly. Ultimately, victory is her only creed - and she is quite well versed in knowing the taboos and culture of her enemies so she can predict their actions and thus dismantle them at every given opportunity.
In addition, Eldrid is a woman who employs brutality in the most surgical manner - happily humiliating and utterly dominating a particularly powerful or rebellion enemy so that, by making an example of them, her life is made easier down the road as others hesitate to engage her for fear of sharing the same fate.
Ultimately, she is much of what her mainland counterpart
Aslauge Daenic isn't - a quiet, reserved intellectual who uses the cultural and societal histories of her foes to predict their actions and weaknesses before striking, in both battle and social situations.
Ultimately, Eldrid's only morality is victory - as has always been taught historically to the Inquisitors of the Throne of ages past. Raised from an extremely young age under teachings that told of victory being the only creed that matters no matter the cost and being constantly reminded that, as the guardian of a people that had already lost all dignity and trace of their former glory, there was no act that would too barbaric or ruthless.
That being said, Eldrid is not a woman who operates in the open if she can help it - thanks largely to her training as an Inquisitor of the Throne, she has long learned of and favored the wisdom of getting to know one's enemy before striking, and striking at the time and place they least expect it in a manner they did not predict. Combined with her own intellectual interests in studying her foes cultures and societies, and Eldrid often seems a genius tactician to those who fight or speak with her.
Personality Characteristics
Eldrid, by and large, seems almost exclusively motivated by an Austere desire to revitalize the barbaric and savage ways of the Giants who have inhabited the land of Frozen Spire Island(Now renamed to the isle of Skaðis in the wake of its ascension into the sky) and fallen back into barbarity ever since the collapse of their ancient civilization during
The Jotunhunts so very long ago.
Unlike others of her kind who are often motivated by power or the trappings thereof, Eldrid seems largely uncaring about such things - instead remaining singularly focused on bringing her people back to even a
shard of their former glory.
As a woman who once served as an inquisitor to the previous High Chieftain(A legendarily rigorous role that required a great deal of mental cunning) Eldrid has long stood head and shoulders above the rest her peers who often relish in their barbarity and simplicity - a cunning woman with decades or centuries of experience hunting, tracking, operating undercover and getting a read on the inner minds and motives of others as well as a host of other inquisitorial duties that required a great deal more mental and emotional intelligence than her peers, Eldrid is a wonderfully talented woman in many aspects; Not only is she skilled all the fields mentioned previously, but she has made a name for herself as a supremely talented fighter capable enough to almost single-handedly defeat the legendary Dragon Sursailion after it had returned to unlife as a mighty Dracolich in the aftermath of the battle to expunge the cult of
The Arch-Lich at the Blackstone Fortress. In addition, she is quite a savvy politician to giantkind AND to the ways and political dealings of non-giants(A rare talent among Giants) and is lastly quite the talented chef.
As one of the 1% of denizens of the isle of Skaðis who managed to qualify for the role of Inquisitor to the Throne in the times before her ascension to the throne and subsequent reforms, Eldrid is a woman with few ineptitudes - not only due to her own immense talent in many fields, but due to the crushing nature of the training to become an Inquisitor itself which, while still fairly secretive, long lauded its brutality in "expunging" its prospective candidates of their weaknesses as something of a public secret. As such, any ineptitudes she once possessed have likely been ruthlessly beaten out of her - or now are so well hidden and secretive that none but Eldrid herself know of them.
Likes: Traveling, Adventuring, Hearing the opinions of non-giants, Trying new things, Battles that are won quickly, Stargazing, The Stars, Restoring the relics of the old civilization, Waiting and Watching, People Watching, Those who speak directly, Those with courage, Taking her armor off right after a heated battle, The Banahogg Ritual, Brutality used surgically, Doing her nails, Making an example of someone to dissuade future dissent, Snow, ???
Dislikes: The concept of jails or prisons, The color of her eyes, Officiating over large meetings, Shoes(or "Foot-Coffins", as she calls them), Having to constantly deal with her own kind, Being constantly pestered to produce an heir, The Giant Notion of "romance", Casual Sex, Causing needless suffering, Boats, ???
Eldrid's greatest strengths lie in her unique nature - as one of the chosen few who not only qualified for the position of Inquisitor to the Throne but who also passed through the legendarily brutal training required to be given the role, Eldrid has long stood head and shoulders above her other Giant kin mentally and emotionally for the simple fact that her role as Inquisitor to the Throne required her to foster incredible intelligence to serve as the eyes and ears of the High Chieftain. Wise, well-studied on a vast wealth of topics, and highly intelligent, Eldrid is an old hand at dealing with other creatures in a social setting in ways both underhanded and obvious, seeing through others' true intentions, as well as bending those she interacts with towards her ends without them even realizing - all incredible virtues for a woman attempting to civilize an entire island of barbaric Giants.
Additionally, Eldrid not only knows full well the ways and customs of her own people but has no qualms with undercutting and undermining them at every turn - stepping into realms her own kind would hesitate to follow if it means victory thanks to her training as an inquisitor teaching her that the only true metric on any given mission was success alone; a teaching that has served her well in her position as High Chieftain.
Finally and perhaps most obviously, Eldrid is a truly mighty warrior - though she has always been rather unique amongst her own kind due to her mastery over the unique divine magic and martial combat blended techniques of the Inquisitors of the Throne. Nonetheless, she has proven strong enough to not only prove vital in the battle of the Blackstone Fortress nearly a century ago, but also in the cataclysmic battle against the Great White Wyrm during its ascent to Sagehood as well as her later battle against the fearsome Dragon Sursailion after it was resurrected as a Dracolich in the aftermath of the battle of the Blackstone Fortress.
Eldrid's flaws are somewhat subjective depending on the culture that is asked about them - to her own people, Eldrid's oddly stubborn refusals to sire an heir or even take a suitor on top of her own rather romantic dedication to a romantic partner she had long ago is seen by her own people as great flaw, as her people often tie power and influence to the number of children one sires and the number of suitors one has had or possesses at any given moment.
Even beyond this, Eldrid is fairly well known to be a woman who often has more in common with non-giants emotionally and mentally than her own people - possessing such concepts as empathy, deep love, and several more emotional interests that her own people often see as "overly girly" and a sign of an odd mental weakness normally inherent solely to Non-Giants.
To non-giants, however, Eldrid's flaws are less mental and more moral - while she is often seen as a progressive among her own kind, she is nonetheless cruel and heartless by non-giant standards, who see her extreme love of the
Dai-Yukai punishment ritual known as
The Banahogg(One of the oldest Dai-Yukai rituals where offenders are tied, shrunk(If needed) and bound beneath the heel of another giant to be crushed and brutalized for variable periods of time) over more "Humane" concepts such as prisons or jails as heartless and vile. Additionally, Non-Giants, though they often respect her reformative desires to 'civilize' her people, often misunderstand her disdain of needless violence as an indication that she possesses goodly moral values - when in fact, it merely means that while she has little problem with ruthlessly squashing her foes and grinding them down to paste in painful and humiliating ways, she simply prefers her violence to reach a sharpened point like a scalpel; wielded for a purpose and that purpose alone, as opposed to others of her kind who she sees as indulging in such acts far past the point where they prove useful.
Overall, Eldrid's flaw is that she is ultimately too moderate, progressive, and 'emotional' for Giantkind and those on the isle of Skaðis and not nearly progressive and "moral" enough for non-giants and those outside the isle - much like a Half-Elf, she is caught between two worlds and often pleases neither.
Though Eldrid is considered a progressive in many fields compared to others of Giantkind, Hygiene is not one of them - she is well-known amongst her constituents for her love of "A good battle sweat", and indeed has reportedly not "bathed" in the non-giant sense once in her life. However, while this often evokes disgust in non-giants who hear it, the truth is a tad more banal - as
Dai-Yukai are a species who rarely 'sweats' as other species do thanks to their half-dead biology, their sweat is rarely anything more than heat and friction being released from within their overwhelmingly powerful bodies before it can build up and harm their cold-dependent internals; often simply condensing as ice water on their skin(Though some Dai-Yukai do sweat more in line with non-giants and produce other stranger substances through their pores as 'sweat').
To Eldrid, such habits are practical, as well - by freezing her sweat as it accumulates across her body(A trivially easy thing on the frigid environment of Skaðis), she often accrues a nearly invisible layer of ice upon her skin that blunts and deflects incoming blows with surprising ease; one final layer of protection against her enemies as a sort of "secret weapon".
Social
Having taken the reign of the isle of Skaðis nearly a century prior to the modern day, Eldrid's reign has been a tempestuous one for her people - wielding her absolute power to enact constant, sweeping reforms to all aspects of the isle's society and bringing radical changes to all corners of Skaðis in an effort to modernize and rebuild the great Giant Empire of yore, Eldrid has squashed more than her fair share of rebellions beneath her brilliant blue sole over the course of her century of rule. Despite this, she remains as unilaterally powerful as ever thanks to her utter dominance over the hearts and minds of the denizens of Skaðis itself - most of whom still remember her legendary deeds which earned her the throne to begin with. This has made her radical reforms aimed to bring all species and ethnic groups on the isle into cohesion and equality beneath the throne all the more possible in a time where any other rule might have failed to push such policies through without wholesale rebellion.
Most notably(And most unpopularly), Eldrid instituted a heavy tribute-based tax upon the native tribes of Skaðis - a policy which aimed to ruthlessly kneecap the more xenophobic, isolationist powers of the isle and help consolidate power around her burgeoning monarchy by taking their mightiest weapons, armor, and items from them and "centralizing" power around the throne; Or, should those tribes refuse, provide Eldrid and her allies a perfect excuse to oust the xenophobic tribes as enemies of the state and destroy them while accomplishing the same objective. While initially controversial, Eldrid managed to gather enough allies to put this plan of hers into action - and the resulting "great disarmament" of the tribes of Skaðis is an event which is sung about in the halls of the isle's tribes even now.
So, while a few have dared to challenge her over the course of her reign, none have succeeded - all sentenced to a grisly fate in an eternal Banahogg as living reminders of what it means to challenge her awesome and seemingly infinite power.
Eldrid, as High Chieftain of the isle of Skaðis for nigh on a century, has accrued quite the extensive collection of contacts across the isle as a whole - and it is largely due to this web of contacts, of the various chieftains and important figures across the isle who respected her enough to follow her and support her on the path to establishing her monarchy that her efforts to reconstruct her homeland of Skaðis has gone so well. However, even before her ascension to the throne of High Chieftain she was a woman with an extensive network - as a former inquisitor of the previous High Chieftain, Eldrid rather famously served at the side of her liege for decades, gathering experience beside the throne until most famously, she helped a nameless group of heroes in their quest to root out and destroy the cult of
Vecna, The Arch-Lich that had taken root on the isle long before.
It was during this quest that Eldrid would make many of the contacts that would later propel her into the seat of High Chieftain - working alongside this group of heroes, Eldrid aided them in their quest and ultimately proved instrumental in the battle of the blackstone fortress that ended the threat of the cult of
Vecna, The Arch-Lich forevermore on the island; ending their plans of awakening a Thanatotic Titan which was rumored to slumber beneath the Blackrock Mountains before they could be seen to completion. Additionally, she aided this group of heroes in the slaying of a legendary Great White Wyrm Dragon that had terrorized the isle for centuries and even helped prevent its ascension to Sagehood - a feat which earned her a wide array of admirers across the isle.
So, while those individual heroes have long since roamed far afield in the century since, Eldrid is believed to keep in contact with at least a couple of them - and used the fame and relations she forged in that role to, after the war was ended and the heroes left, begin her legend on the path to claiming the seat of High Chieftain for herself.
Ultimately, Eldrid is believed to have no family to speak of - neither blood-related or a family of her tribesmen as is custom for many
Dai-Yukai, as she was forced to put her own family and clan to the torch during her service to the previous High Chieftain as a test of loyalty.
Like many Giants upon the now ascendant continent of Skaðis, Eldrid has a polythiestic faith that combines and conflates the faiths of
Ymir, The Frostbringer and
Nyfau, The Giantmother into a single gestalt pantheon that she prays to equally, with gods such as
Freyja, The Godkiller and
Baldr, The Unbroken serving more as secondary, smaller-scale gods. Eldrid herself is fairly well-known for her worship of
Ymir and
Nyfau especially, and while she has proven tolerant of lesser known gods whose faiths populate the isle as well as Giant Gods who have a larger faith on the mainland(Such as
Freyja and
Baldr), she is not believed to be a follower of such faiths herself.
Eldrid, as hard-headed as iron and as direct as an oncoming train, possesses a perfectly magnetic charm for the people of the continent of Skaðis - while coming off as a Brusque and Frigid woman of Few Words to most others. Ever careful to present a veneer of strength and invincibility even now, as the threat of rebellion has not entirely passed her fledgling monarchy that she seeks to create upon Skaðis, Eldrid deals with her social problems with a deftness of wit and social skill that well masks the talent of the woman that lies beneath her hardened exterior - a deeply emotional, oddly "human" woman who knows full-well the typical tactics of her kind and those around her and how best to undercut them at every opportunity.
In few words, Eldrid's social aptitude has best been described as that of an Eccentric Genius - confusing in her methods, sometimes to the point of enraging her constituents, but largely proven wise in the long run.
Finally, though few "outsiders" have managed to reach the enormous, floating continent of Skaðis since its ascension decades ago, the few that managed to speak with her beforehand described her as oddly charming and suprisingly canny and shrewd - as if she had received lessons in statescraft in the ways of non-giants, and has come to know the value of wordsmithery in a way that very few of her own kind, even the likes of
Aslauge Daenic, have come to understand.
Eldrid's mannerisms are somewhat of a touchy subject amongst her people - for while she presents herself as a steely, stoic, and iron-clad woman as the need arises she is somewhat well-known to be fairly "girly" and more emotional in private, in a way that is described as being almost "cute in much the same way a young girl is".
Eldrid is not known to have any pets, though she is well-known to be quite an avid student of cookery in her spare time - especially the means and methods of foreign cultures from outside the continent of Skaðis.
Distant Ally (Important)
Towards Eldrid Hrolfdottir
History
A relationship that was born out of a rather violent first encounter, Aslauge and Eldrid met each other as part of a public relations campaign by Aslauge and her cabinet to present themselves as "The True Inheritors" of the will of the ancient Giants - a campaign which saw Aslauge and her warband(Along with some bureaucrats) journey to the then-oceanic isle of Frozen Spire Island(Before it had ascended and been renamed) only to encounter a surprisingly organized centralized government being led by none other than Eldrid.
In the end, after an initial exchange of blows that saw Eldrid and Aslauge duel on the fields outside Jotunngardr, the visiting Delegation from the mainland was welcomed into Eldrid's reformed kingdom as kin - though the meeting was frought with tension, it nonetheless proved fruitful for both sides as, in the end, each side recognized the sovereignty of the other. Rather famously, Aslauge and Eldrid(After a rather intense duel) became friendly enough to promise one another that the other shall focus on their area that the other could focus on theirs; Aslauge vowing to focus on reshaping the public opinion and rally the giants on the mainland while Eldrid focused her efforts on rebuilding the birthplace of the Giants and restoring their ancestral homeland to its former glory.
Though the relationship is not perfect(As their moral values are not strictly compatible), they are compatible enough that they have made friendly vows to allow the other to operate in peace and to endorse one another as recognized heroes of the Giants - a declaration that many non-giants fail to see the monumental importance of(As such declarations require a degree of humility few Giant Rulers possess).
Nicknames & Petnames
Though they are friendly enough with one another, Aslauge and Eldrid are far from being friendly enough to call each other by nicknames - their meetings are stiff and formal on average(Despite the best efforts of Aslauge to loosen those very formalities), with little room for true friendship.
Relationship Reasoning
To many, the alliance of Aslauge and Eldrid - in many ways representing 'modern' and 'traditional' Giant cultures - was a monumental step towards the rejuvenation of the Giants as a whole; a vital step on the road to the Giants reclaiming their place in society.
Commonalities & Shared Interests
Though Aslauge quickly proved herself to be somewhat crueler and more sadistic than Eldrid, who valued practicality and results over what she saw as overindulgent torment, the two nonetheless proved to have a plethora of shared interests and commonalities - and enough of a common ground that even their unique interests complemented the other.
Aslauge, with her extroverted nature and tyrannical love of sex, food, drugs, and all things indulgent, complemented well the more stoic and reserved Eldrid - who rather famously abstains from many of the same vices to an almost unusual degree.
Perhaps most famous is their shared love of food - Aslauge by the simple virtue of being a ravenous glutton, and Eldrid for her rather sophisticated talent at cooking all manner of cuisines from all across the planet of Ea.
Though Eldrid has proven herself a wise and competent ruler whose brilliant policies and ruthless politics have helped centralize and rebuild the ancient monarchy of the days of yore, Eldrid is no goodly ruler - all the wealth collected in the course of her duties has long been reserved for her and her alone, with precious few exceptions. As such, beginning with the "Great Disarmament" of the tribes of Skaðis nearly a century ago and continuing into the modern day with her more reasonable tax policies across the isle and various tribute schemes to keep the more distant tribes who live more in the old ways of raiding and pillaging than others in line, Eldrid has become a very, very wealth woman who has glutted herself on the wealth of her people and stuffed it entirely into her vaults alone.
This is not without its risks, of course - should she fall, her own personal treasury would mean her country would be left bankrupt - but for now, it has proven an invaluable tool in helping to centralize power from an entire continent of savage giants who, for thousands of years, had paid fealty to the High Chieftain at Jotunngarðr largely in name only(So long as the High Chieftain did not show weakness) and even then obeying their calls only when convenient for them or their tribe.
