Elemental Class (Ell-eh-men-tall)

The Elemental Class

The Elemental Class is a classification of Manifestations within the Dual-Class system, created by English researcher Robert Stanton in the 1400s under the title of the Control Class. Globally, around 148 countries recognise the Dual-Class system, the rest generally recognising the Elemental class in some way, shape or form.
The Elemental Class is the control Class of powers, where powers manifest as having dominance over the elements themselves. Many of these are active manifestations that can be directly manipulated by the user. Originally, when Stanton created the Elemental (Control) class, it had only two Subclasses within- Elemental and Psychic, but he added the Negative Subclass later on. This Class was further expanded upon by Arthur Craddock and Doctor Moore in the 1800s. They renamed it to its current title of Elemental, separated the previous Elemental Subclass into 4 new ones, and added Theoretic.
The name Elemental has been called slightly misleading by some, as there are groups that don't consider Necromancy, Psionics or Theoretic powers as inherently Elemental. What separates it from the Corporeal Class is how Elemental powers can manipulate the world around the user, and not just their body, which all of the Subclasses have in common. The currently recognised and documented Subclasses and major Manifestations are listed below:
Fire (c. 1862) Water (c. 1862) Earth (c. 1862) Air (c. 1862) Psionic (c. 1400) Necromancy (c. 1400) Theoretic Elemental (c. 1869) The Powers & Manifestations article has an interactive chart listing all Subclasses, as well as Major and Minor Manifestations.

Significance

The Elemental Class has been recognised in some shape or form for milennia before Stanton presented the Dual-Class system. In many cultures all powers were considered some kind of mastery over the Elements, while in others, they would have a Polyclass system which considered the Elemental Subclasses as Classes in their own right. While not all powers can fit inside neat boxes, Stanton's Dual-Class system allows for much more accurate studying and comparisons of powers. It proved that certain powers were compatible with others, as in theory, an Empowered with the Pyromancy power could eventually unlock the ability to use Electromancy, to use Thermomancy and/or Photomancy. They could never, for example, use Necromancy, or Terramancy. It's almost impossible to have powers in multiple Subclasses under one Class (the only known exception being Angites, who possess an extra power gene), even if an Empowered could have powers from both the Elemental and Corporeal Classes. This fact alone gives the Dual-Class system a lot of scientific merit.
Powers under the Elemental class all end in the suffix "-mancy", from the Greek word "manteia" which means "divination". It's used in reference to manipulating magic, elements and substances, and was first used by The Church of Bliss referring to themselves as Necromancers in their religious texts. Arthur Craddock and Doctor Moore took inspiration from this, and used the suffix to denote a power as being from the Elemental Class. Unofficially, the suffix "-kinesis" is frequently used, though more colloquially than scientifically.

Elemental Class Characters

The Elemental Class is the most prevalent, with up to 70% of active Empowered (0.5% of Global population) having one or more Manifestations under the Elemental Class. The list of characters with Elemental powers are as follows:
