Personal history
Geldvan hates being in one place for too long. Not just one location, but one plane. He was raised in a nomadic performing troupe who travelled around the multiverse providing the best entertainment possible to every kind of creature. As such, he’s never been the type to settle down somewhere. He misses the troupe dearly, as it’s been nearly eight years since he’s seen them.
Master Forhian’s Spectacular Wanderers’ Company welcomes people of all kinds and from all realms, so it has a fantastic variety of races and talents. Both of Geldvan’s parents are troupers themselves, having come from Kasinthenel. His mother ran away from home for reasons that she’s always refused to talk about and his father joined when the Company visited Anensaria and he found himself enamored with the beautiful elven actress. His father is a dancer and musician, and his mother is a singer as well as an actor. Though not unheard of, children born into the troupe are somewhat rare and the rest of the members helped raise him nearly as much as his parents did. He learned at least the basics of every type of performance, but he mostly focused on acting and dancing. As he became older, another dancer in the Company named Dosi began teaching him how to defend himself using his skills as a performer. Along with being his mentor, Dosi was one of Geldvan’s closest friends in the troupe, and he misses her nearly as much as his parents.
He spent the first 53 years of his life with the Company, until they were trying to the Fey Plane and something went wrong. The Company needs two spellcasters powerful enough to cast Plane Shift, but usually has three just in case. Master Forhian, the leader of the troupe, is one such spellcaster (and an accomplished bard as well), and Geldvan was supposed to be traveling with him for this particular journey. They all joined hands as usual, but when the spell was finished, Geldvan found himself alone in Hearqiasha.
With no idea what else to do, he went looking for a contact. The Company has at least one contact on each plane, usually a former trouper. There are several contacts on the Material Plane, but the only one Geldvan knows is Murwolt, a crotchety, old human man who lives somewhere in Wolntare. Geldvan has met him once, and it did not go well. Murwolt demanded a level of respect that bordered on deference, even from Master Forhian, and Geldvan didn’t think he deserved it, especially as the son of a former trouper who had died decades ago. Murwolt took Geldvan’s disrespect very poorly and refused to acknowledge his existence for the rest of the meeting. Unfortunately, now that he was stranded on the Material Plane he had to go to him to get back to the Company. The more immediate problem was that Geldvan had no idea where Murwolt lived in Wolntare. It took six years of wandering the country to find him, and even then Murwolt would only speak with him enough to tell him to piss off. Geldvan spent another half a year trying to appease him before giving up and deciding to find his way back to the Spectacular Wanderer’s Company on his own. He’s not entirely sure what to do, but he’s on the lookout for two things: another contact on the Material Plane or his own method of planar travel. He hopes that if he finds a friendlier contact he can get in touch with the troupe and make his way home to them; if he figures out how to travel between planes on his own he knows the places the troupe performs regularly and can meet up with them.
More:
Children raised in the troupe usually don't have proper last names, and instead will have nicknames or epithets that are only used within the Company. For example, Geldvan was known as Feychild, because he tended to get along well with fey creatures when they went to the First World when he was young, and Geldvan the Seen, for a particular incident where he failed miserably to hide after stealing from a merchant in Phamos, which the troupe will never let him live down. When he got stuck on the Material Plane he started using his mother's surname, Zhyn.
His mother's name is Reesa Zhyn and his father's name is Coh Trimalfiod.
