Legate Cecil Garner
Cecil Gardner was a member of the retinue that brought the Bedes to the Apps Mountains during the Exodus and arrival. He was a master of combat and warfare, and the personal guardian of Jessica Bede, younger sister of the Eternal Empress. He did his utmost to protect her during the fighting, and helped to train her in the methods of martial combat. In time the two of them became a feared duo on the battlefield, as he led the armies of the Shin in many wars over the centuries. He gained most of his notoriety in underground battles versus the dwarves of the Apps, and led the triumphant conquest of sixteen separate dwarven strongholds, forts, and citadels.
When he was not in combat he served ably as the Legate of Zordonium, watching the border with what ultimately became the Mersan Union. He soon returned to the battlefield and was a well known and outspoken proponent of a unified front against the Jakonians and their expansionist ways. Therefore, it was no surprise when he took the field during the Great War. Cecil was appointed the Supreme Allied Commander of the Bamardian front, leading the forces sent by Alsona, the Sypi Confederacy, and the Shin Empire into battle. Although the Jakonians surprised him several times in battle, he eventually learned to outmatch them.
Cecil's greatest trial came with the Battle of Conecuh Lake. In the dead of winter, he was able to lead the Jakonians into an unfavorable position, forcing them into combat upon the frozen banks of the lake itself. The fighting that ensued was ferocious, and a ground of Jakonian cavalry managed to encircle around behind the lines and cut off Cecil from the rest of his army. Cecil's guards were slaughtered, and while the forces of the allies were winning the battle under the command of Jessica Bede, Cecil himself fought desperately. When the battle ended, his remains were found, stripped of their armor, surrounded by the bodies of nearly three hundred Jakonian soldiers.
