Emerald Forest

The Emerald Forest, alternatively known as the Summer Wood, is a region of the Feywild governed by the Summer Court, embodied by an endless forest of tall verdant trees with pockets of groves; springs and streams. The grass on the forest floor can vary in density and height, but often remains within reasonable size when compared to medium humanoids.   The trees are an entirely different matter, many are a couple of hundred feet tall with the oldest ones being around three hundred feet tall. The fauna and local animals are a wide range, there are numerous varieties of Fey as well. Many denizens of this realm either live deep beneath the earth, inside trees or roam freely across the endless forest.   Most Fey within the realm will carry some sort of golden and green motif with them, representing their kinship to the Summer Queen and her domain, and since the Summer Court generally represents that which is vibrant and strong in life, it is not uncommon to find that many Fey denizens are more warlike and tribal. Often forming roaming Clans or Tribes which patrol the woodland realm with fierce loyalty and desires to defend.   With their natural alignment to the strength of Summer, and the symbolism included in such a season, it is often expected to find that many Fey of the Summer Wood are arrogant and stoic; with a noble streak but a short temper and boiling wrath when wronged. Nevertheless, Summer Fey make for some of the most loyal and eternal allies, their bonds are strong and their honour great, a vow sworn by one of these fiery folk is a vow sworn till death.   At the heart of this warm and beautiful realm, resides the Summer Court, the seat of power for one of the most powerful and influential women in the Feywild - Titania, Queen of the Summer Court, Queen of the Seelie Court.   While Titania is a glorious, powerful and righteous leader over her domains, she is known to have a darker side, as the flickering flames of Summer can often lick out in anger when mistreated or underestimated, so too does she. While it is renown to be almost impossible to anger her, when a truly despicable act rouses her ire, the perpetrator is faced with a wrath most powerful.

Geography

As with all areas of the Feywild, the Summer Woods and Emerald Forest are suffused with potent magic and untampered emotion. It is a realm of unrestrained natural beauty, defended and guarded by the Faerie Queen, Queen Titania. Under her watchful eye, the region flourishes with burning strength and noble dedication.   The tall verdant trees which create the weaving bark and leaf domain are vast. Many easily reaching the incredible heights of one to two hundred feet, while the oldest and grandest trees of the realm extend further still, growing to almost impossible heights of four, maybe five hundred feet. These ancient barks are able to support small civilisations with abodes built around the thick trunk and ever reaching branches.   The largest tree, around which the Summer Court has been constructed, stands proud as the centrepiece of Queen Titania's realm and towers over all others at a shocking four hundred feet tall. It is a beautiful Feybark tree, known in the Sylvan tongue as "Darach Órga". It is widely believed that the only other trees capable of competing with it, are the twin trees "Ómra," and "Fómhar" which reside within the Domain of Delight ruled over by the Queen of Autumn.   Darach Órga is known alternatively as the Senaliesse Palace, and is the home of Queen Titania and the Summer Court.   The grasses of the region are vastly more kept than their likenesses in the Fields of Spring, being a reasonable size when compared to most average sized humanoids. The grasses are luscious and rich, and most have a soft scent of peppermint or lemon essence, deeper into the woodlands the grass becomes much shorter and manageable, and becomes mixed with plush moss and vibrantly coloured mushrooms.   Amidst the forest and woodland are pockets of sprawling groves; springs and streams. The springs and streams are beautiful spots of natural beauty, with rushing rapids; white foams; perfectly piled pebbles and rocks and broken tree trunks acting as seats and bridges from one side to another. The sound of rushing water is chimed with bubbling brooks and soft tocks of wooden windchimes, and the subtle singing of nearby nymphs and sylphs.

Localized Phenomena

In the forest surrounding the heart of the Summer Court, there is rumoured to roam a Wolf of the Forest, a huge Fey spirit summoned in the image of the Spring Court. With mossy green and brown leaf-like fur and blistering eyes of luminescent green, burning with the constant renewal and eternal rebirth of Oberon's love for Titania.   This Wolf of the Forest roams at his behest, to ever remind his eternal lady love of his affection and commitment, and to offer protection of her realm, as well as reminding those who would do harm in the Emerald Forest, that the Spring Court is ever watching.   The Wolf of the Forest treats each tree within Titania's realm as a member of its own pack; where it treads, saplings grow and flowers bloom in iridescent shades of spring. It is keenly aware of all which happens in its lands, and will often appear from the ethereal to defend its territory.   It is widely believed, however, that due to being summoned to the Emerald Forest and Summer Woods by the Lord of the Spring Court himself, that the aspect of the Wolf of the Forest widely seen, is little more than an avatar of the true power it holds. Its true form, a primal spirit of never-ending love and devotion, resides within Oberon's private Domain, where it can oversee all of its territory with ease.

Fauna & Flora

Flora:

There are a vast array of flowers and plants which grow native to the Summer Wood and Emerald Forest, some tended to directly by Queen Titania herself in her private gardens, others allowed to grow free with flourish and flare to stretch through bark and root, grass and soil.

Greatfire Rosehearts:

Growing upon a bush of mint green leaves and stems, these rich red roses bare heart shaped petals and buds; the more mature they are the darker the shade of red upon their bloom. When a creature approaches, getting within fifteen feet of where such a rosebush grows, the head erupts into brilliant orange and yellow flame, flickering like torchlight; amazingly the stem and leaves of this bush will not catch fire from the flaming bloom, nor from any other magical source. However it is well documented that the roots are highly explosive if brought into contact with any flame. Touching a Greatfire Roseheart will result in a sharp burning sensation across the skin which cannot be tempered by any worn protection such as fabrics or metals, and eating one is ill advised.
[Touching the burning bloom of this rose will cause 1d6 fire damage. Eating it will result in 2d10 fire damage.]

Mageflower:

These beautiful azure coloured flowers spring up akin to Material Plane daisies, with relatively short stems of a dark turquoise and tiny round leaves. They come predominantly in their classical startling blue shade, but have been known to be rarely found in a shade of violet within the private garden of the Summer Queen. These flowers are inherently magical in nature, and anything which can be used to detect magic, will show them as such. Despite this, they don't seem to have any actual properties.

Senaliesse Chrysanthemum:

These luxurious flowers are grown only within the private garden of the Summer Queen, their large palm sized blooms are a dark golden colour with crimson at their centre. It is thought that the Senaliesse Chrysanthemum may be one of Titania's favourite flowers, as it appears that she rarely sends small bouquets of them to her favoured Court officials as a reminder of friendships earned and respect given. It is also documented that when these flowers are steeped with Feyberry Leaf and Ginger Root, they provide an excellent herbal remedy in easing nausea; heartburn and ankle swelling caused by pregnancy.

Fey Caps:

A very rare mushroom which has a creamy white stalk and a red, pointed cap, it consistently emits a chromatic plume of spores which, when inhaled, can lead to those in the immediate area falling under the effects of the Confusion spell for 1 minute.   Eating the mushroom deals 2d10 poison damage and also causes the Confusion spell effect for 1 minute.   However, when brewed correctly it creates a potion which leads to 1 of 3 spell effects: Potion of Reduce, Potion of Enlarge, or Potion of Alter Self (10 minutes).
