Ser Brawley Berg began his service to House Winthrop of Hess Hall as one of ser Dominic Winthrop's Foot Knights.

In 443KS House Winthrop was invited to support their neighbour House Southbay of Southbay in an effort to depose House Darklyn of Darklyn Point. Following their success in this war ser Brawley and two of his fellow knights, ser Brawley's former Squire ser Gabal Winement and ser Orestina Halch were rewarded with the right to bear their own heraldry and seek positions for themselves outside of Hess Hall.

During Tourney at Southbay 443KS ser Brawley made a connection in the lists with the Hedge Knight ser Elrie Shiphard. When the other two Winthrop knights took up offers of work outside their liege's holding ser Brawley invited ser Elrie to return with him to Hess Hall. Upon their return ser Brawley was awarded the position of Mayor of Bitteroot.
