In 443KS House Winthrop was invited to support their neighbour House Southbay of Southbay in an effort to depose House Darklyn of Darklyn Point. Following their success in this war ser Gabal and two of his fellow knights, ser Brawley Berg and ser Orestina Halch were rewarded with the right to bear their own heraldry and seek positions for themselves outside of Hess Hall.
During Tourney at Southbay 443KS ser Gabal accepted an invitation from ser Derrick Quay to return with him to New Caincastle and begin courting ser Maecy Vance.
