Spire Advisor
Spire Advisors are a prominent feature of many courts across The Continent of Greland, be they the Dukes, Duchesses, Lords and Ladies of The Kingdom of Somercrag, the Noble Families of The Kingdom of Rotheval, or even the independent cities of The Lamas Plains. They are also, more rarely, seen advising people in less prestigious positions, business owners, ship captains and so on.
Responsibilities
Regardless of where they are placed, the main responsibility of the Spire Advisors is, as the name suggests, to advise. Not only are they extremely well educated themselves, with a wide knowledge of history, goegraphy, laws of the land and politics, but they have access via The Raven Network to the libraries of The Spires and the network of other Advisors across the continent, ensuring that whatever information is needed is likely to be available somewhere.Restrictions
Spire Advisors are expected to live their lives in a certain way in order to ensure that they, and The Spire itself, maintain a neutral position in the courts of Greland:- Spire Advisors eschew attachment to things.
- They must not become physically or emotionally intimate or form sexual or romantic relationships with anyone.
- They must not give oaths to others or allow others to give oaths to them.
- They must not take up arms unless in self-defence.
- They must not accrue wealth.
- They must live modestly, owning no more than what they need to live.
- They must dress modestly, and in neutral tones, their attire should help them to blend into the background not draw attention.
- They must offer assistance to anyone in need.
- They serve a seat, not a house.
Treatment
As a result of the neutrality of The Spire, Spire Advisors can expect to be treated to a certain standard anywhere, outside of probably The Kingdom of Irogonie:- A Spire Advisor can expect to be treated courteously by anyone they encounter.
- They can expect to be offered room and board anywhere.
- They can expect to be allowed access to anywhere they wish, including being privy to any counsel or conversation.
- They can expect to be given whatever items or materials they need.
