Finnarland

Finnarland is what the Finnar call a smaller central region of the north that encapsulates a number of towns and villages from all the main clans of the Finnar. While the Finnar territories are vast and extend from the far East of the northern continental lands to the far West of Finnarland each of the main clans controls at least one town. Their relative geographical closeness to each other and the commerce between them have made this region one of the most important for all Finnar.   The origins date back only around 3 decades when Zara and Finn Gestsson with the help of the rest of the Wolf Pack used part of the fortune gathered from their adventures to found Lagrheimr (Lager-Heimer). The goal seemed clear to everyone, as The Unclaimed Lands was turning colder, they wanted to have a place where they could keep their growing family safe and fed.   Over the last three decades, despite the harsher winters, people from all over the continent have been arriving at Finnarlan because of the instability and wars in neighboring regions. With the new arrivals, less used to the nomadic ancestral ways of many of the Finnar clans, villages and towns quickly took root and grew. Despite the weather or maybe because of it, growth attracted commerce and soon the neighboring dwarf cities and elf populations started to establish commercial relationships with these towns. Over time, while these towns remain under firm control and ruling of the different Finnar clans they have turned into unexpected melting pots of races and cultures.   Many people who come to Finnarland from the southern realms are outcasts, fugitives, or pariahs in search of a place where they can be tolerated, if not accepted. Some came here determined to make their fortunes. Others come for the solitude, or to escape notice and stay out of the reach of the law of the southern cities.   They’re fishers, loggers, miners, hunters, trappers, furriers, and traders accustomed to the harsh climate, the slow pace, and the isolation. Like the hardy lichens and determined reindeer of the tundra, residents endure and do what’s needed to survive. Stone from the hills and valleys surrounding the region supplements wood as a building material in Finnarland. Homes have sharply pitched roofs to prevent snow from accumulating on them.   The people of Finnarland wear layers of woolen clothing often topped off with fur cloaks. Under these heavy clothes and cloaks, one resident looks very much the same as another. Outdoors, it’s hard to tell the people of Finnarland apart—and easy for clever monsters to hide in their midst.
