The Bristli Boar

Ten years ago Martin Smay and his Wife Joanna started the Bristli place with a simple philosophy. "Everything is better with bacon" why not beer. If Beer is essentially liquid bread and bread goes with bacon then blend them as one. The end results is a beverage that is salty sweet with a smoky taste and tends to make mariner types smell of something other than the sea...It just has a shorter shelf life. This is not a problem cause the stuff tends to sell well. The Smay's have found the sweet spot of aging Barley and Pork. The fact that the tavern smells of Pork but doesn't actually serve any confuses many until they actually taste their beer. The tavern also reeks of fish but that is from the clientele more than the fare, composed largely of fisherman and Shelley Coats and dock workers.   Martin Smay once a butcher's apprentice was both a hunter and brewer by hobby. He quit his job and blended his loves and has decorated the walls with taxedermized animals mostly boar. Given that the place is frequentented by mariners Nets and ships wheels also make up the atmosphere. Picture if you will Warpigs of the high seas. Commemorating this spirit is an taxederimized cross breed of a boar and Grouper fish a symbol of this being a social center of the Grouper's corner neighborhood. The Boar hunted by Martin and the large Grouper caught by Sorken Clemens Linemaster of The Maw the local fisherman's guild.   Joanna Smay passed away of Pox a few years ago. The woman who is the strong arm of the establishment is the daughter of Martin and Joanna Taryn Smay who in addition to being bartender also serves as bouncer. She has been the voice of strength in the family since Joanna died.   The basement is a well set up microbrewery that boasts best Ale in Portsmouth. the Boar is a modest family run Brewery by the Smay father and daughter brewing team. While a tiny establishment the quality of Martin Smay brews titled "Bite" and "Bile" of the Boar have threatened the higher establishment competition of the Wrong Rapier a headquarter business for Dock Warden PAULO GARDAN whom nearly every waterside business in Portsmouth pays protection to. Clientelle have been gathering in increasing number and business is usually out the door until close. The small family tavern was at first thought to be of no consequence but the Wrong Rapier have recently lost business. As a result the waterfront boss has put the family under pressure to sell their ale to him at a price they cannot afford.   Martin Smay refused and Shore Wolves smashed his brewing equipment. However his daughter Taryn Smay and her best friend Marco Baker defended the premises.
