Culture

Major language groups and dialects

Thyrians speak Elvish⁣ split between two dialects, Theyan and Narian. Theyan is spoken in the Jungles of Theyennor and in the western provinces of Morenthyr⁣. Belamoran is what most consider the main form of Elvish, spoken in the eastern provinces of Morenthyr and in other nations.

Shared customary codes and values

Thyrian society is highly stratified, with elves being split among the Ordo Altum and the Ordo Laurum. Below the Ordo Laurum are the non-elven inhabitants of Morenthyr⁣.

Ordo Altum

The Ordo Altum make up the ruling elites of Morenthyr. The elven aristocracy makes up about 10% of the elven population but control much of the Empire's resources. Members of the Ordo Altum are largely restorationists, pushing to restore elven supremacy on the continent and fighting most attempts at reform.

Ordo Laurum

The Ordo Laurum consists of most elves in Morenthyr⁣. The laborers, farmers, and craftsmen of the Empire are all considered part of this caste. Many are modernists, trying to establish a future for elves to work alongside the humans and gnomes of the north. The Emperor-Regent and many of the new bureaucracy who now control the Thyrian Empire are members of the Ordo Laurum and are in conflict with the pre-revolt aristocracy.   Halflings loyal to Morenthyr⁣ during the Great Revolt⁣ were given the same rights as the Ordo Laurum in 1386.

Non-Elves

Non-elven minorities are found throughout Morenthyr⁣ but are more heavily concentrated in the east. Significant populations of humans⁣ and halflings⁣ live within Morenthyr. Their treatment varies greatly depending on where they are located. In Thal'Narius, humans and halflings live nearly integrated with elves, with detractors calling them HINOs (humans/halflings-in-name-only). This contrasts with western settlements, where non-elves continue to be discriminated against and are heavily looked down upon. In more progressive areas, some humans and halflings have started to consider themselves truly Thyrian.

Ideals

Gender Ideals

Thyrians have an egalitarian society with all positions being equally available to both male and female elves. Due to their belief in reincarnation, Thyrians see gender as a minor detail which only alters physical appearance.
