Dockside
"The Admiral's Last Grog? Aye, I know it. Just head up the Midships until you reach the Forecastle and go hard a' starboard until you see the buildin' with the sails on it."
~Simven Duda, Captain of the Dainty Pig
Demographics
Middle class to poor humans, with a smattering of Lizardfolk that live in an enclave to the south beneath the fork.
Government
The Dockside workers are arranged in a similar style to Wupan. 'Captains' own the enterprises and lands of the district. They view their own ships, shops, or tenements as sovereign territory. Their tenants, crews, or employees sign articles with them to negotiate things like pay and treatment. These captains vote on electors, who nominate edlers to solve issues and electors to send to the city council.
Defences
An Overmaster of the Docks serves as an edler for managing imports coming in off the docks. He has at his command a small but fearsome band of guards.
Industry & Trade
Most of Dockside's industry revolves around the river and serving those who ply it.
Infrastructure
Most of the docks are commercial in nature and run by individual dockmasters. There is an extremely modest naval dock for Cambreath's brownwater navy, but it rarely sees any use.
Districts
Upper Dockside, the area above the waterfall, is more affluent and pleasant. The locals refer to it as the Forecastle.
Lower Dockside is the area below the waterfall where it splits. The locals call it the Aft.
The area of Dockside that slopes between the two holds most of the residential buildings, standing awkwardly on an incline that routinely breaks ankles. The locals call this the Midships.
The local terms for their district are confusing to outsiders, a fact that the locals take great pride in and they refuse to elaborate if asked to clarify what they mean by them.
Assets
A series of warehouses stores the river's bounty.
A fishmarket lines the river and provides seafood for the city.
Guilds and Factions
The Captain's Court is the informal name for all of the captains that vote. They meet in a dockside tavern once a week. The Murlynd Charitable Society maintains an outpost here, preserving and pickling discarded and expired fish from the market to feed the city's poorest.
Points of interest
The Admiral's Last Grog: A middle-of-the-road tavern that mostly caters to the Captains of the district.
The Pool of Radiance: A small pool of water, which glows with a flickering blue light. It is said to be haunted by a malevolent spirit, waiting for a worthy creature to possess. The local townsfolk avoid it, but tourists regularly risk a dip.
The Crossed Spears: A fanciful commoner's tavern, built atop an outcrop of hewn and rune-carved stone.
Raven's Anvil: A neglected blacksmith's workshop, built around a shrine of Cinderswipe the Raven
The Shrine of the Cerulean Sky: An ornate domed building, decorated with bronze statues of many exotic gods and goddesses. The clergy/curators swear that they aren't pirate plunder.
Tourism
Thanks to the smell of the fishmarket, the docks are rarely visited by outsiders or those without a business interest in the area.
Architecture
The buildings of the Dockside district are typically squat and low, mostly made of wood with solid stone foundations and red tiled rooftops lacquered to a gleam.
Geography
Dockside extends from the top of the waterfall to the bottom of it, and through a span in either direction.
Climate
A heavy fog blankets the lower areas of the lower Dockside reaches for much of the day on most days.
Natural Resources
Fish, eels, and pearls are pulled daily from the river.
