Aruis Decarn

Speaker Aruis Decarn

Aruis belonged to the Decarn family, was born in Humelaka and was the only-begotten son of his parents. He didn't have a close relationship with them and had been very independent from a young age. He got involved in politics at the age of 14 and represented his region and then his country in the government at 15. Aruis had no wish to be married and have a family or to have wealth and riches, in his eyes, his calling from God was to sacrifice his own desires and well-being for the good of the people.   He rose through the ranks of government and became Speaker for the Council on the 289th of 1881 at the young age of 18. Their former speaker, Abigail Narci, stepped down because of the stress of her job and the tension The League was facing that she didn't want to deal with. Aruis gained support for his good words and politics and led The Aiden League when Zuor and Raktari had already begun The Ral War. Aruis wanted to be more involved in the fight, but most in The League didn't want full-on war; instead, wanted to establish simple support for Ral and its people. Because of the consensus of the council, Aruis didn't go to war with them in the beginning. Instead, he gave financial aid to Ral to help in their conflict and also let fleeing refugees into the nations of The League. Derek, the chairman of Ral at the time, accepted and used the resources given to him wisely.   As time went on Aruis slowly gained more and more supporters by swaying new members of the council to his side as they took up their political positions. His supporters were a loose party that faced opposition from moderates who didn't agree with their ideas yet continued to reelect Aruis. Those who supported him saw a large threat in The Salican Dynasty and its Salican Royal Family, while moderates saw it as less of a threat and more of a rival power to them that had a war with their ally. Aruis, with his newfound support had the votes for a controversial action he proposed, which was not direct involvement in the war but close to it: sending in mercenaries and rebels into The Salican Dynasty to help in The Ral War. This decision was controversial, and despite his popularity and position as Speaker of the Council, he barely got his plan through, but nonetheless, The League began supporting and sending rebels into The Dynasty on the 174th of 1891. After this decision, he was on horrible terms with The Tar Faction and Dynasty, especially the monarch Zuor, but despite this, he continued to send in rebels as well as aid Ral.   On the 147th of 1926, when the The Ral-Reasonarick Split occurred, Aruis supported Ral and condemned Uio and his rebels. However, he decided to stay out of the split for the most part and would continue funding the remaining parts of Ral that were still true to the government and the chairman, Jarek Porv. He did this because he saw no reason to provoke more fighting.   On 175th of 1949 the bloody Attack On Cedar occurred, where hundreds of Talalmari troopers and civilians were killed. This was an ordered attack by Zuor on The Aiden League and a message to them to stop what they were doing in their land. Aruis and his supporters were furious at this and wanted justice. Previous moderates did not approve of their radical views on The Ral War, but after The Attack On Cedar, they joined them, wanting revenge. Aruis found overwhelming support among the people and government after the attack as they called for war. And so, on the 198th of 1940, he used his support among the council, people, and military to join The Ral War and begin their battles with The Salican Dynasty.   He gave power to the military and did his best to continue to work as a speaker in the war as he aged. He suffered from mental problems because of his lack of friends and family, as well as the stress and responsibility of his job. Despite his problems, he continued to lead The Aiden League in the war from the 198th of 1940 until his death in office. Aruis suffered a heart attack on the 234th of 1946 and died in Licea. The council of The League as well as the various generals of the militaries of the three nations all decided that with the death of their leader, they would give power to the military until The Ral War ended. The government used its power to put off electing a new speaker until the end because they feared that such a course of action would interfere with their progress since it was possible an inexperienced speaker could take over or a speaker who would pull out of The Ral War.   Aruis would be remembered as a man who rose to be speaker, got three nations to rally behind him in going to war, and was an amazing politician who sacrificed himself mentally for years for the sake of the people. He was a man of principle and virtue who lived a sad, lonely life where he wrestled with the nature of morality and what he would do to be the best he could for most of his life. He lived and served 65 years as speaker and even more as a politician and councilman.
