Derek Guy

Chairman Derek Guy

Derek Guy was the chairman for the Ral Senate from the 21st of 1881 to the 9th of 1922 (41 years) but began as a regular senator for Ral prior to 1881 during the crisis with The Salican Dynasty. The chairwoman at the time was Keka Garrel whose term was up during the crisis with Zuor and The Salican Dynasty so she had to leave office. Derek was voted into power because of how patriotic he was as well as how he appealed to both the Christians and secular atheists of the senate, and he also made it a point that he wanted peace with the north before blood.   Derek was a descendant of immigrants that came from the continent of The Yem Alliance and belonged to an independent church that was part of the collective Yem Heretical Churches, as they were called. It was a cultural thing for him, and he wasn't devout at all.   When he was elected in 1881 the crisis with The Salican Dynasty was happening, and he had to try and negotiate with The Salican Family to not recapture the Christians fleeing into his nation. Refugees fled to the northern part of Ral (with most of them being Christians that were other and separate from the The Var Church) and Zuor wanted his escaped subjects back. Derek didn't want to hand the refugees over nor let The Salican Dynasty come into his land to retrieve the fleeing people, so like Keka Garrel before him he refused letting The Salican Dynasty retrieve their citizens in Ral.   The Salican Dynasty violated his wishes for strong borders and invaded Ral on the 73rd of 1881 to recapture citizens, fight with resisting soldiers, and kill those who attempted to flee more. On the 95th of 1881 The Tar Faction, led by Raktari Abira joined the conflict as well. Derek tried to negotiate but couldn't and realized that The Salican Dynasty would expand their kingdom and the issue over refugees was secondary compared to expansion. With support from the senators (even the atheistic senators since they didn't oppose fighting back in the beginning of the war) Derek rallied the military to fight back and accepted support from The Aiden League.   He attempted to calm the people and tried to present Ral as a strong nation to the rest of Lasarian. Derek portrayed himself as an on the grounds people's leader and would often meet military leaders in camps to coordinate personally in battles, this was unorthodox for a chairman to coordinate directly with the military. Unfortunately, during one of his trips to meet with leaders in the north of Ral over how to push back against The Salican Dynasty, the enemy caught wind he was coming close to the border and took the chance to strike at once across the northern part of Ral. It was called The Raid Of The North where thousands died and The Salican Dynasty got a bloody victory where they killed Chairman Guy in a camp along with other leaders and got to push back their enemies. After Derek's infamous death, a new chairman would rise to replace him, Jarek Porv.

Social

Reign

Derek was the chairman for the beginning of The Ral War and died defending the homeland.

Religious Views

While he did belong to the vague collective Yem Heretical Churches he was more agnostic in his views and he didn't speak much of his religion.
Guy had the intention of allowing the church to appoint a new patriarch after Garrel made a ruling against it. But when The Ral War started, he couldn't, and no one was concerned with the patriarch with The Ral War killing thousands. The Orthodox Church couldn't appoint a new leader of the Ral church since technically Garrel's decision was still in effect. They also knew that the divided senate wouldn't agree fully with allowing more religion into Ral.
