The Federation Building

Purpose / Function

The Federation Building is the government complex of Gardinya Lyra. It is located on the southern border of the Northern Bright Bay District. It is home to all of the administrative and legal offices in the city:
  • Offices for the 12 councilmembers and workrooms for their staff
  • Administrative offices for city departments - building department, community aid, conservation initiative, finance department, health and safety, historical society, public works, rights and records division, sanitation department, tax collector, town clerk, trade management, utility management division, voting register
  • Large public meeting room for town halls
  • Courtrooms where legal and civil disputes are carried out, as well as offices for the city's lawyers and judges
  • Embassy space for other members of the fae kingdom, and an empty embassy office held for a representative of the human world
  • Head security office, with blockhouse cells for holding criminals (usually empty)
While the Federation Building is the largest in the town, in regards to the fae kingdom, it is one of the smaller government complexes. The people of Gardinya Lyra are particularly proud of the fact that they have a relatively small and streamlined government structure.

History

The Federation Building was the first building built in the city. It was originally a three-room hut (one room for the council, one for the administrators, and one for legal matters) and stayed that way for the first couple hundred years of its existence as the city's population was building up the first, second, and bay districts of the new grown city.  In 1701, construction started on the building, where as more room was needed, another room was haphazardly added to the structure.  This practice continued for the next 165 years until 1866 when head councilman DePaul Crimi got tired of getting lost between his office and the town hall, and decreed that the building should be torn down and rebuilt with a purposeful and logical layout.  It took 17 years to construct, in which the various government processes that the building once held all operated out of different rented buildings all over the city.  The building stands in the same way to this day.
