The TriGlitter Bridge

The TriGlitter Bridge is a system of three wooden pedestrian bridges that meet in the middle of Sunflower Lake connecting the university district with the first(Thousand Arches Neighborhood District)  and second (Butterfly Garden Neighborhood District) districts. Each of the separate bridges has its own pergola about halfway down the bridge, where people can meet and view the brilliant lakeside views.  Where they meet in the middle the famous Rock Rose Coffeehouse is located.  It was named TriGlitter Bridge after the way both sunlight and the water reflect off the gold metal encasements.

Purpose / Function

The TriGlitter Bridge was built as a walkway to make traversing the city easier since most of the population gets around on foot or by bicycle.  It connects the most fashionably posh neighborhood in the city of Thousand Arches Neighborhood District with the most prestigious, old money part of the city of Butterfly Garden Neighborhood District with the hip and happening university district.  Walking along the bridge is very peaceful and provides some of the best lake views in the city, especially at night when the lake reflects the shooting stars that can be seen over the southern skyline.  This bridge is one of those 'I'm not necessarily practical, but look how nice I look' touches that mark this as the nicest part of the city.

Architecture

This wooden bridge is stained a dark mahogany color, and the bottom/sides of the wide plank floor have been dipped in a golden metal to help the bridge resist erosion from the elements.  The railing on either side reach just above waist height on a normal sided fae individual, and consist of fairly simple, straight square posts that have also been dipped in gold six inches up the sides, and have been placed close enough together that a child would not be able to fit their head through the posts.  Each bridge is wide enough for at least four individuals to be walking side by side.  There are matching wooden benches placed every so often on the bridge to make sightseeing more comfortable.     On the Thousand Arches Neighborhood District entrance side there is an elaborately carved arch with gold gilding it's geometric flower details.  On the Butterfly Garden Neighborhood District entrance side, a Squavian bush has been sculpted into an arbor and covered in pink and purple flowers.  And on the University District's entrance side are two tall marble pillars, each topped with a gold statue of the goddess of learning and the goddess of medicine.

History

The TriGlitter Bridge was built in 1841 after a solid 10 years of being petitioned for by the residents of the first and second neighborhood districts as a quicker way to get around the lake.  The citizens in the less well-off third, fourth, and port districts delayed the construction of the project with arguments that town money was more needed to be spent on their districts versus this relative vanity project for the more affluent part of town.  The town council repeatedly denied the request of the citizens to privately fund the bridge, thinking that this would lead to unfair restrictions on who would be able to use the bridge once it was completed.     It was finally built as part of the construction of the University of St. Lyra, which made efficiently connecting the new university district to the rest of the city a top priority.
