The Golden Petal Theater
The Golden Petal Theater is an open-air amphitheater in the Northern Pine Ranch Neighborhood District that sits along the Ivy Straight. It was built in 1823 by Laur DeVolo, leader of the Shiny Happy Storyteller theater group, after the traveling group decided they had traveled enough and that they longed to stay in one place (were they lured by the wonders of Sunflower Lake to settle in Gardinya Lyra like the original settlers of the city, the world will never know?). The theater has light oak wooden bench seating (and everyone who knows better, knows to bring their own blanket and pillow to the proceedings to ensure maximum comfort) that fits a maximum of 1000 people. It has a gorgeously carved and gilded proscenium, designed to look like the forest of the Mourning Lovers Maze, and a curtain of the finest royal blue velvet. The stage is large enough for the most elaborate of all productions, and the orchestra pit comfortably seats 50 members. Every detail of the stage was planned with the care and love of one who really loved the theater, and no one could say that they loved the theater, like Laur DeVolo.
Six major shows a year are put on by the house company of the theater - a ballet dance number for both winter and summer solstice; a play by for the two equinoxes (a drama in the spring and a comedy in the fall), a musical performance for the Starfall holiday, and the ever-favorite shadow theater show, put on behind a giant screen woven new each year for the occasion by the Little Sisters of the Winter Rose, for the holiday of Little Moon. Traveling theater groups are constantly cycling through the theater to put on a variety of live performances and it seems that not a week goes by without something new to be seen at the Golden Petal Theater.
