The Anzai-Fujiwara Alliance is a marriage-based political alliance between the
Anzai and
Fujiwara Dynasties of the
Shou Empire. Created as part of the peace agreement ending the 798 Shou civil war, the alliance specifies that the two dynasties will bilaterally defend one another from domestic or foriegn threats, and intermarry intermittently.
History
After more than 200 years of fighting in the 798 Shou civil war, the Anzai Dynasty began making large military gains, turning the tables on the previously-favored Fujiwara Dynasty. In an effort to bring the war to a close, the Anzai Dynasty pressed for peace talks to begin. The Fujiwara Dynasty, feigning interest in ending the war while assessing strategic options, agreed to a marriage alliance on the condition a legendary artifact be retrieved from the disant island of
Volaris and given to the Fujiwaras as a wedding gift.
Thinking the task impossible, the Fujiwara Dynasty was relieved when the Anzais accepted their proposal. However, their relief was short-lived, as Sword Saint
Sayaka Anzai retrived the artifact within the year at the cost of her own life, securing the alliance.
