Fujiwara Dynasty

The Fujiwara Dynasty is one of the Five Dynasties of the Shou Empire, and is part of the ruling Anzai-Fujiwara Alliance. The Fujiwara Dynasty Head is Hanzo Fujiwara. The Fujiwara Dynasty has historically been a clan of warriors, expert in martial matters and often in charge of the Shou Empire's military forces, and were first recognized during the Shou-Elvish Wars. They control the expansive former capital of Teikyou, and operate out of the heavily-fortified island of Sakogawa, said to hold many of the Empire's secrets.

History

Fujiwara Dynasty records claim they are descended from divine blood, beginning with their founder Nakatomi Fujiwara. Evidence for this includes their distinctive look, strongly associated with red hair and eyes, which has persisted over millennia. Historically, the Fujiwaras have also gone through long periods of intermarriage only with members of their own family, resulting in inbreeding that seemingly produced no negative effects. The Fujiwara Dynasty has historically been rivals with the Anzai Dynasty, as evidenced by the 798 coup led by Asumi Fujiwara that toppled Anzai control and began the Shou Warring States Period. However, the two dynasties have often intermarried and even been allies as well throughout their long history.
