Sword Saint

The position of Sword Saint is a special religious military position closely associated with The Way and the Anzai Dynasty. Established in the early Shou Empire, holders of the title are magically sworn to protect the Anzai Dynasty.

Title

Candidacy for the Sword Saint title is gained by beating the previous Sword Saint in ritual single combat. While this is usually done via organized duel held on a yearly basis, the title has sometimes been passed on during wartime through unstructured combat. Once one is a candidate for the title, they must undergo rigorous examination by the clergy of the Way to ensure their purity of intention. Historically, this is done by the via the sword Seiken.

Boons

Holders of the title are granted significant boons, including a room in the palace in the royal district of Seito, and significant wealth and influence. Some sword saints have gone on to found Shou noble dynasties, such as in the case of the Hokke Dynasty.
