Ozan is one of the cities of the province of
Geldrin. It is the northernmost city of the province (and in extension the Kingdom of Thedas) and is bordered to the hills of Anarth to the north, making any travel northward a perilous journey. It is one of the larger cities of the province, but only really grew to prominence under
Azhidal's Kingdom of Tulbuk. Here it functions as the capital of the northern provinces.
History
During the Kingdom of Thedas the city was one of several important cities in the region, but was always overshadowed by
Shornhelm and
Tumnosh. This changed after the
Kingdom of Angmar under
Thorek conquered the province. Because the city lay so far north it proved an interesting line to Thorek's Nordmarian brothers. When the
Bands of Brothers subsequently returned to the province in 1353 Ozan was inhabited by the Black Band. These wildlings were not of Thedasian descent and had always had close connections to the
Orcs of
The Wilds. Thorek succeeded in striking an alliance with them and even gave their commanders positions in his army. When Thorek was defeated the Black Band was greatly reduced in strength and the city suffered in a similar way. The fortunes of the city rose again when the Nordmarian invasion swept the land. As stated above Azhidal favored the city as the provincial capital of the region. For the Nordmarians this means that the city became the center of their slavetrade northwards and the center of their weapon production.
