Khy (Kee)
Lair of Khytix
Khy is a major plane that manifests as a long winding road through a perpetually dark swamp. It is an inhospitable place of rot and moldering death unfit for life, but nevertheless is home to several small communities of mortals. Those that live there have adapted to the strange traits of the plane, while visitors find themselves at the mercy of the plane's strange gravity.
It is the home of and named after a god of swamps and rot, Khytix.
Geography
For most, Khy is only a road, and the two major settlements that have sprouted up along that road. To travel into the wilderness is dangerous - and past a certain point, almost impossible. It takes around a month to circumnavigate the plane while traveling across the road, and around two weeks to travel between each of the two major settlements. Between them are a few homes and wayside inns, as well as a few notable structures off the road.
Off the road are dense swamps of dead and dying trees and festering bogs. Small groves of fresh and vibrant plants occasionally pop up, but are a rarity and do not last long. There are few paths in the swamps - only whatever high and dry land can be found. Structures tend to be much rarer, but old abandoned towers and manors can be found crumbling at the whims of the shifting muck.
Ecosystem
Most of the beasts native to the plane avoid the main road and the orange lanterns that line the path. Many resemble mundane creatures of the swamps - toads, alligators, water snakes and such things. Further from the road, the smell of death and rot begins to deepen and the creatures become more dire. Living molds, funguses, and dangerous plants.
Localized Phenomena
One of the most notable features about Khy is that gravity functions differently for those not native to the plane. Visitors, as well as whatever they brought with them, find themselves physically drawn towards the nearest section of the road. Equipment hangs away from the body, and roll away on the ground as if on a hill.
This odd gravity only increases in strength the farther away from the path one travels. For most humanoids, traveling beyond around fifteen miles from the road is a nearly impossible feat simply due to the massive force pushing back against them.
Planar Conjunctions
Khy has a fast planar cycle that brings it in conjunction with the material plane on a fairly steady basis, though not a terribly predictable one. In this way, Khy was first colonized by humanoids - and in turn, the material plane became aware of Khytix. When in close conjunction, the swamps of the material plane can sometimes act as portals into Khy, and the same is true in reverse.Tourism
Those who find themselves drawn to Khy tend to be those obsessed with the very things that make up much of the plane - rot, fungus, and swamps. Quite a few skilled alchemists have traveled to study the plane and the rare ingredients that can be scavenged there - just as many have succumbed to the dangers of the plane, however.
The ingredients that grow here tend to be highly valued, and their trade sustains much of the local economy. Taverns and inns cater to these guests, attempting to put them at ease by surrounding them by fine things, gentle scents, and whatever foods might please their palate.
