Mal'Haran

Southern Dominance, Province

Mal'Haran encompasses much of the Southern Dominance, and is considered the most powerful and influential province of the The Empire. Mal'Haran rose to power when Mal'Haran (the person, who was named after the place) discovered Mal'Haran (the material which is processed into Connection) under the dunes of Ran'Haldin.
This is one of the only places throughout the Empire to be granted provincial status, meaning that while it is still a part of the Empire, it has an incredibly large degree of autonomy, and in reality functions more like it's own nation.
Since Mal'Haran is one of only a few places throughout Nalan where Connection can be gathered in great quantities without turning people into Greys , controlling this source has given it incredible influence over all aspects of the Empire. Many consider this province to be the real power behind the Empire, with Luminessa acting only as a figurehead.
Though Mal'Haran is the largest of all provinces throughout the Empire, much of it is empty desert, and in reality its population is quite small. Though it is the source of almost all essence in the empire, its people tend to live highly traditional lives, shunning modern inventions such as Airships and Self Pulling Carriages.
Mal'Haran becomes somewhat more hospitable during The Darkening, where its temperature drops substantially. That being said, crossing the Dunes during the Darkening is said to be highly dangerous due to the creatures a drop in temperature draws to the surface.

Structure

As is the case with all provinces, Mal'Haran is led by a Chancellor, who answers directly to the Lord President.

Culture

The people of Mal'Haran tend to live very traditional lives, still using beasts of burden and older technology such as wells rather adopting more modern, essence based alternatives.

Mal'Haran. Refining this substance into Connection and shipping it throughout the Empire has made this province incredibly rich.
