Wereleopards

Basic Information

Anatomy

Wereleopards have two forms the first is their humanoid form which are bipedal and have four limbs, two legs and two arms, five digits on each hand and feet and have hairless bodies. They have hair on their heads and males are able to grow facial hair. The second form, their leopard form, is also bipedal with four limbs, two legs and two arms, five digits on each hand and feet but they have hair covering their entire body, claws on their hands and feet, a leopard tail and a leopard head. They are much larger in cat form. Experienced Wereleopards can transform at will, however, the full moon forces them to transform.

Biological Traits

Male Wereleopards are generally larger than females and are able to grow facial hair. Female Wereleopards are able to produce milk from their breasts and are the ones that give birth. Wereleopards are forced to change into their cat form when exposed to moonlight, but experienced Wereleopards are able to change into cat form at will. Wereleopards are also able to rapidly heal wounds as long as it wasn't made from using silver.

Genetics and Reproduction

Wereleopards reproduce sexually and are viviparous, they typically have a gestation period of 9 months. Wereleopards can create new Wereleopard by biting another humanoid, if the victim doesn't get treated before the next full moon, they will become a Wereleopard.

Growth Rate & Stages

Wereleopards a are a long-lived race and reach physical maturity somewhat later than humans. A Wereleopard is traditionally considered an adult once he or she reached age fifty. Wereleopards age much like Humans but over a longer period of time, remaining vigorous well past 150 years. Most Wereleopards lived to see their bicentennial, and a few live to be over 400.

Ecology and Habitats

Wereleopards are able to live anywhere in the world due to their abilities and biology. Wereleopards are generally found in temperate, sub-artic, tundra or sub-tropical climates.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Wereleopards in their humanoid form are omnivores that procure their food by hunting and gathering for it. Wereleopards in their leopard form are carnivores and obtain their food by hunting, their prey can include other races.

Biological Cycle

As time progresses Wereleopards age, eventually their bodies will reach a point where they can no longer sustain themselves and will eventually die. However, they live much longer lives than some other races such as Humans.

Behaviour

Wereleopards are very self-indulgent and lazy as a race, preferring to put the individuals need first before others. They are wary of other races but can ally with other races if they have earned their trust. Wereleaopds resolve disputes generally without using violence, but they will turn into their leopard forms to solve issues through fights.

Social Structure

Wereleopards live in prides where there is an alpha Wereleopard that leads the others, the alpha who leads the pack is the most powerful member. A Wereleopard can become an alpha when either the original dies or if the Wereleopard beats the alpha in a fight thus becoming the new alpha. The moral and ethical outlook of the pack tends to follow that of the alpha. Some Wereleopards don't join packs and instead live solitary lives, these Wereleopards are known as strays.

Facial characteristics

Wereleopards in humanoid form have a pair of eyes, that come in various colours such as blue, green and brown, and ears with one nose and mouth. Male Wereleopards are able to grow facial hair. Wereleopards in leopard form have a leopard head with similar features that a leopard would have.

Average Intelligence

Wereleopards in their humanoid form have a high level of intelligence and are known to be one of the more intelligent races found on Tilea. Wereleopards in their cat form, are less intelligent and are mainly driven by their instincts, especially during a full moon, however, more experienced Wereleopards are able to control these base instincts except for during a full moon.

Wereleopards predominantly use sight to observe the world around them but can use other senses such as hearing to do so as well.

Naming Traditions

Wereleopard names are influenced by Human culture with some bestial sounding names, those who become Wereleopards gain a new name that is given to them by the one who turned them.

Wereleopard beauty ideals are based on the physical appearance of an individual and the personality of the individual.

In Wereleopard society both sexes have equal rights and opportunities.

Courtship Ideals

Wereleopards will try to court those they are attracted to by nuzzling them and/or by fighting rivals.

Relationship Ideals

Wereleopards are polygamous and form harems with a male at the centre. Male Wereleopards are protective of their mates and will fight off rivals. Wereleopards are also known to turn those they are in love with into Wereleopards if they are from another race. There are also harems where the people involved are all the same sex for example there can be a harem of Wereleopards where they are all female or one where they are all male.

Average Technological Level

Wereleopards who live away from civilization have a low level of technology and rely more on their cat form, they have access to stone tools, basic metals and wooden tools. Wereleopards that integrated into civilization have a high level of technology, they have access to electricity, gunpowder, metal alloys and refined metals, steam power and machinery.

Wereleopards treat other Wereleopards as family members such as siblings, children, parents etc. The alpha of the pack is treated with respect and reverence.

Common Dress Code

Tribal Wereleopards wear very basic clothes, that come in basic colours, with much of their skin exposed, they will also adorn themselves with bone jewellery. Civilized Wereleopards wear clothes made from fabrics and cloth, that can come in various colours, those that are a part of the nobility wear clothes made from fine fabrics and silk.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Wereleopard culture is based on satisfying the needs of the individual, Wereleopards are very protective of things that they consider theirs be it objects or people. Strays are even more protective and possessive that Wereleopards that are a part of a pride. People who are turned into Wereleopards are given a new first name by the one who turned them and adopt their last name becoming a member of that pride. Tribal Wereleopards live away from civilization and prefer to keep to themselves living off the land. Civilized Wereleopards adopted the culture they live and are generally more friendly towards people from other races.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

A common tradition for Wereleopards is to hold turf wars against other prides of Wereleopards, these turf wars involve the strongest individuals of each pride. The strongest from each tribe will do battle, those that win will gain territory from the losers. These turf wars are used to settle disputes between prides, instead of outright war.

Common Taboos

In Wereleopard society it is forbidden to betray your pride or cause them harm, this is punishable by death.

Wereleopards are wary towards other races, but their trust can be earned by them. Most other races view Wereleopards as savage beasts that need to be hunted, though there are others who view them as powerful allies.
