Richard's Study
Richard Dargent is often found in his study, which serves as both his personal headquarters at home and his official office as the Vizier of House Dargent. The entrance to his study is protected by a silent alarm, which alerts him and Guard Captain Silvester Fidtan if someone tries to enter without permission.
History
Goldday, Tinkermoon, 1313
After Richard's sons, Victor and Hugo, returned from their expedition to secure investments with Morpheus's Pleasuredome, Richard called them to his office for a debrief. The Pleasuredome had stopped purchasing narcotics from the Honourable Company due to missing shipments, and Victor and Hugo's efforts had produced mixed results. They managed to convince the Candleman, responsible for the missing cargo, to move his operations lower down in the city, freeing up the Pleasuredome to resume receiving shipments from the Honourable Company. However, they also inadvertently started a gang war while securing the gnoll's withdrawal from the Candleman's territory, which left all three competing gnoll leaders dead, destroyed Barker's Menagerie (one of Richard's other investments), and killed Barker himself. Richard was not pleased with his sons' efforts and summoned them to his office individually. Knowing that Victor would be more nervous having to wait to be heard, Richard disciplined Hugo first, using his cleric magic in the form of a silver coin to Inflict Wounds before magically healing the damage to hide any evidence. Victor likely underwent a similar punishment, as there was a spot of blood on his collar after leaving Richard's office.Mapday, Tailormoon, 1313
Richard secretly used his office mirror to contact mercenaries and coordinate attacks against the Mongrelfolk. The beginning of his conversation was recorded by Lindie Asklepa's clockwork snake familiar, Basil. Although the recording cut off before all of the details were relayed, one of the sites of attack was revealed to be a Garden of Remembrance in the upper east side of the Gnoll Catacombs. Although not confirmed in the recording, it is probable that Richard scheduled the attack to take place during the Hightide memorial festival in the religion of the Mongrelfolk. The timing of the attack suggests that Richard intended to cause maximum impact and damage to the Mongrelfolk community. Later that day, Richard's son, Hugo, accidentally triggered the alarm while attempting to enter the study without authorisation. When Richard asked him about it, Hugo pretended to be ignorant, claiming he hadn't left his room due to being quarantined with the Shakes. When Richard mentioned the silent alarm, Hugo continued to feign ignorance, stating that he hadn't heard anything. Despite Richard explaining that the alarm was only audible to himself and Silvester, Hugo persisted with his act of confusion, seemingly trying understand what his father wanted from him. This led to Richard becoming increasingly frustrated, ultimately leaving with the impression that Hugo genuinely knew nothing about the intrusion, which was precisely what Hugo had intended all along.
