Beccan

Beccans are characterized primarily by having beaks, unlike labians, but they differ from their southern cousins in many other ways.

Extant species are native to the northern continents of Heimval and Volenar. They are adapted to temperate and arctic climates and all possess full body plumage instead of scales or smooth skin. They have also retained a functioning dorsal keratoplex, vestigial in all modern labians, though the keratoplex morphology varies widely between species. All beccans give birth to live young, gestating their eggs internally.

Though beccans do not possess lips, they are able to speak create all the vocalizations humans can due to their syrinx. Their speech also involves beak clacks and booms created by inflating their throats. Humans who seek to approximate these sounds incorporate claps or plosive sounds. Despite how absurd these attempts seem, most beccans appreciate the effort and respectful intention behind them.
