Binda

Lady of Kindness, The Joyful One, The Gentle

Binda is the Jolnir gottyan associated with the moon of the same name, known as Han in the Kalmasi trade tongue. She is second eldest of the three daughters of the gottir Ragna and Kynaz.

The Jolnir believe Binda to be the kindest of all the gottir and the most sympathetic and gentle. She is prayed to by those seeking peace within their families, community or countries. Her name is invoked when oaths of peace are sworn and during marriages and adoptions. Though the daughter of the earth gottyan, she is believed to be the handmaiden of the sea gottyan, Thera.

In Jolnir folklore, Binda is always the one caught in the middle, interceding between those at odds, particularly between her sisters Vefa and Skulta as well as between her mother Ragna and her aunt Thera or father Kynaz. In these tales, she uses her wits and empathy to find the common threads between people and gottir to reunite or at least achieve a truce.

Binda is portrayed as a tall, young woman holding out her hands, palms up. From her wrists hang peace bands. Her effigies are usually dyed blue with woad.
