Koba Claycrafter
A wizard who was best known for his mastery over the art of crafting golems.
Personal History
Koba was born into an unremarkable family in a small village near Hokushi. In S215, at the age of 14, he was sent off to the city to apprentice with a potter there. Koba immediately showed an incredible talent for crafting and firing clay creations that far exceeded those of the master for whom he worked. Recognizing the boy's talent as arcane, the potter sent Koba to Sukorak. For the first two years that Koba studied at Sukorak, Lorcam Sunstrike held the title of Inferno, but in truth Koba only saw him in passing from time to time. Koba instead studied under Virth Whiteblaze, who inherited the title of Inferno after Lorcam's death in S218. As a student of Virth, a wizard who specialized in the crafting of weapons and armor, Koba really thrived and learned to build many wonderous things with his powers. In time he even learned to instill the spark of life into creations. It was at this time that he adopted the name Claycrafter, and began his work with golems. Although he initially wanted to create the most powerful golems possible, Virth encouraged him to distinguish his work in other ways. For the next decade, Koba studied and worked on developing the most refined and beautiful golems instead. Where others saw golems as tools, he saw them as art pieces. Shortly after Virth's death in S231, at which time Silia Lai inherited the title of Inferno, Koba decided to leave Sukorak. He and Silia were on good terms, but differed greatly in their approaches to work and study. Silia believed in collaboration towards the common good, and strove to instill this mentality in all those who studied under her in Sukorak. Koba believed that great people would achieve greater things if left to focus on them. Just as Hai Masterbrooke had done a century and a half earlier, Koba set out to create his own workshop. However, unlike the original founder of Sukorak, Koba did not come from a wealthy family or have the resources to construct such a tower on his own. So instead, he drew up plans for a lighthouse. It was to be built on the eastern shore of Lake Kohu, south of Ahonato, where the land crept out into the lake and rocky islands were known to catch inexperienced sailors off guard. In exchange for living there and maintaining the arcane powered lighthouse, he received funding from the Shudan Shogunate to complete the construction. The finished work came to be known as Koba's Point. Here he lived and worked until his death in S283.
