Spring Garden

Written by Chrundle_the_Great

Description

Spring Garden is a humble stone monastery tucked away in the Fellgrim Forest.

Inhabitants

While the majority of the monks are opteran, Spring Garden's people are still diverse. Travelers come from all over the Borderlands and beyond to seek transcendence through meditation.   Many of the monks have escaped different perils caused by Gaes's collapse; as such, they are generally peaceful and accepting of outsiders who respect their search for tranquility.

Factions

The governing body of Spring Garden is the Immortal Council, a group of opteran who have chosen not to metamorphose into adults.

Locations

While the monastery's architecture was simple, it had a simple beauty that calmed the monks and visiting travelers. Pools of crystal-clear water dotted the courtyard, around which people from different backgrounds would sit in peacable silence.   Perhaps more impressive was the sloping mountain path that led to a high cliff overlooking all of Spring Garden and giving an uninterrupted view of the sunrise. Finally, a canyon ran alongside the perimeter of the monastery, eventually leading to the Temple of the Sun.

History

Spring Garden's tranquility was quickly disrupted when a suneater bear appeared and nested in the cave atop the high cliff. During the day, the beast gorged itself on sunlight, but, when night fell, it raged and raged, infecting the waters of the monastery with an aura of madness.   After the Immortal Council deliberated, Kapital learned that adventurers were wanted to deal with the bear. Seeking knowledge from the dryad Lothrien and Keeper himself, they soon realized what a challenge even a young suneater bear would be. With the council's permission, the group crept to the bear's lair to attack at midnight, when it would be at its weakest.   The bear and its sunsprites proved formidable opponents, and the group steadily felt dawn, and certain death, approaching. Leading the frenzied beast through the canyon, they lured it towards traps, but they did not expect the timely intervention of the Order of the White Stag, who fired arrows from the shadows, ruining their traps.   Reaching the sunstone shrine, the paladin Ravix heard an otherworldly voice, commanding him to survive. Glowing with pure sunlight, he scared away the elven archers, and, with the help of the warrior Oramli, the bulette Dougbrad, and the butcher Bruswick, he beheaded the raging suneater bear.   With the beast dealt with, peace returned to the monastery, and a friendship was forged between Kapital and Spring Garden.
