The Gauntlet of the Star

The Gauntlet of the Star was the third gauntlet in The Gauntlet of Mercy. It was the first gauntlet in the games to have no casualties, although one participant did die, and was resurrected.
This gauntlet was distinct from the others in several ways. As well as being less deadly, the gauntlet had a stronger focus on psychological and personal threats to the participants, leading to Noa claiming it was 'mostly designed to upset us'. The Gauntlet forced the teams to work together, consisting of three towers, each of which had to be completed by every team in order to reach a final battle against a recreation of the Lotus King, who in legend had been bested by the Empress in challenges of the arcane, arts, and sciences.
As well as this, the Gauntlet of the Star was the first Gauntlet not to be run by Regent Sai, but instead by Zhou First, as Sai was otherwise indisposed. Zhou made several last-minute changes to the Gauntlet, including exempting the children in Team Eight from a particularly upsetting combat involving mannequins enchanted to look like loved-ones, changing a punishment in the tower of sciences from death to injury, and also allowing Team Eight to skip one tower entirely.
The gauntlet led to several revelations about the past of a number of participants, particularly Solemnity and Rin, who was revealed to be pregnant. In the gauntlet, teams gained a magic ink-brush that allowed them to cast legend lore, which led to Mishi Fen regaining her memories. A 'voting game' implemented in one tower led to significant changes in team composition.

Team Changes:

After this Gauntlet, Rin Eighteenth was voted to be exempt from the final round of the games, and returned to the Celestial City, where she has been put under house arrest. As 'least valuable', Team Eleven were forced to lose one member to replace Rin in Team One. Hinoko was chosen as the replacement.
