Applegate

Demographics

Poorer folk of Heywoods south side, often moving here for protection or acess to the gardens kept by the local gangers.

Government

The Furcoats position themselves as the local law, keeping the peace and helping to insure it's residents are fairly fed and protected. The Hippies are responsible for the food production, in exchange for protection from the Furcoats.    There's not much to say for written law. Ask before you borrow something. Earn your keep. And don't stare at the exotics too long....

Defences

Ramshackle walls, a handful of milita, and some "repurposed" drones.

Industry & Trade

The Hippies trade with Nomad packs and local Night Markets in exchange for scratch. Everyone scavenges to build better infrastructure.

Infrastructure

Makeshift wells, squat houses, shanties, community guardens, a courtyard/common area, and other modest supports.

Guilds and Factions

  • The Technicolor Furcoats: Ganger protectors of the hippies and Applegate alike in exchange for produce and other assistance.
  • The Dirty Hippies: Weed-loving reclaimers with ties to the local Nomad community. They make up most of Applegate's population and work in agriculture and hydroponics equipment.

History

Formed five years ago after Wojtek wiped out a Valentino encampment and, with the help of his gang and the Dirty Hippies, turned it into a modest community.

Points of interest

  • The Den: Once packed with unwanted animals waiting to be euthanized. Nowadays the building lies empty of animal guests, and the veterinary offices have been taken over by the Technicolor Furcoats.
  • Red Sky Deli: The owner is a middle-aged lady who lives upstairs of the shop proper, and she's got a soft spot for the crew after the snuff job. There's water, power, and food as long as you pay for it, but it only holds 2 Edgerunners max at any time. There is also a very large, friendly orange cat named Hubert. Hubert is the resident ratter and mouser. He likes to treat hiding Edgerunners as self-warmed cat beds. The packs of toilet paper make a good, improvised sleeping spot. This is considered a Cargo Container for purposes of Housing.
  • Chopper’s: Not a biker bar, despite the name. No, the name alludes to the fact that this bar used to be a local butcher’s shop, up until there just wasn’t any more meat to sell. The proprietor of Chopper’s, a slightly pouchy-looking man named Norman, has put the old chill-cases to good use by keeping booze cold in them. Customers sit on high stools up against the chill-cases, and Norman and his staff pour out the shots and slide them over. Customers also come to Chopper’s because Norman’s nephew, 80/20, runs a Ripperdoc business out of the now-defunct walk-in freezer in the back. 80/20 got his nickname by what he’s willing to do to people who try to fuck him over, because unlike the walk-in, the meatgrinder still works. Enterprising Techs or Medtechs also come to Chopper’s for preowned cyberware. You just gotta clean it and fix it back up.
  • Nana Meow's Nursery: A family-run store that sells fresh produce and hydroponics equipment.

Architecture

Stone and brick buildings decrepit from years of damage and neglect patched up with sheets of metal and plaster. Grimey and rusted metal fences. Walls splashed with technicolor glow paint and murals.
