The Kingdom of Chevalia; known for its festivals and prosperity. Chevalia and the Holy Meladan Kingdom have a complicated past, but Chevalia is truly the better place to live. Valorith is its capital city, known for its Dwarven population.
The Kingdom of Chevalia is a standard monarchy, and rather hands-off to its citizens. The majority of power is decentralized, held by local lieges throughout the peerage. Chevalia is known for metalworking, fishing, sailing, and a strong, stubborn defense. The people are known for being honest, if a bit simple.
- King - The King is granted authority over all of Chevalia.
- King's Council - Monks of Niende - The King's Council and Monks of Niende serve different purposes, but are equal under the law. The King's Council helps advise the king and write laws, while the Monks are expected to enforce them.
- Duke - The Dukes of Chevalia are those who manage the Counts of several towns and prevent any from becoming needlessly cruel.
- Count - Counts are to manage the local governments of a single town and nearby villages and ensure it follows Chevalian law without compromising its independence, in principle.
- Local Governments - granted limited autonomy; settlements may form their own government.
The Kingdom of Chevalia mandates religious freedom and promises a strife-free life for its citizens, focusing on maintaining stability and safety.
The Kingdom of Chevalia holds many fortresses, navies, and armies. Internal war is common in Chevalia, so many of these are tied up in small feuds. It is impossible to get a full measure of the assets of Chevalia as only a portion are ever devoted to a war at a time. It is believed that 5% of Chevalia's population are in the service of a lord's retinues; split between soldiers, policing, administration, et cetera. It is estimated that at maximum 10% of the population could be drafted, though it is unsure how many of these would end up on the battlefield and not assisting in logistics.
The Kingdom of Chevalia split off from the Holy Meladan Kingdom in 70 AMN, and has been unified for its entire history since then. The kingdom has gone under multiple royal families as duels and marriages have changed it throughout the years, many marrying into families from the Continent.
The Kingdom of Chevalia consists of 878,906 residents total.

The Kingdom of Chevalia occupies the entirety of West Chevalia, and is constantly attempting to expand its borders into the central mountains and forests claimed by the various wildling clans. All of the various claimed islands and the actual segments of Chevalia are historically the land of the Holy Meladan Kingdom, but they declared independence historically. They are now recognized as a distinct kingdom, and the ancestral homes of the population.
The Kingdom of Chevalia's military is known for its stalwart defense. The Valorithian Guard is a seasoned force known for its heavy armor, forged in the Dwarven forges. Unfortunately, they cannot be everywhere -- the majority of the Chevalian military consists of levies and local-liege retinues, with little training.
Chevalia is one of the few countries in which one can purchase tower shields and barding for animals. Chevalian metalworkers are the best in the world, with metal plates, mugs, and cups being standard in any decent tavern in the country. This also leads to Chevalian ships being much more affordable than average, as the only expensive portion of the task is the massive amount of carpentry; the valuable nails and pins are no longer as valuable, in Chevalian waters.
The Adherents of the Cycle are the primary religion within the Kingdom of Chevalia; as a major splinter faction and reason for it declaring independence, they enjoy many privileges to this day. The Adherents were not allowed to worship in the Holy Meladan Kingdom, and this was the main spark for the revolution.
Chevalia holds many religious holidays and rites to this day, but within living memory, the Adherents of the Inverted Cycle were finally granted the right of being a legally allowed religion. The Inverted Cycle was originally banned as being heresy, as it believes three figures from the shared mythology, believed to be evil, are worthy of worship.
The Kingdom of Chevalia is at a truce with the
Holy Meladan Kingdom, having declared independence from it many years ago. The two countries warred for a short time, until the New Republic was founded.
The Kingdom of Chevalia is also at peace with the
Communities of Daero, and has never been at war; the two have traded constantly for goods since the founding of the Kingdom. It is said the Chevalian independence war could not have been won without trade from their allies over the sea.
The Kingdom of Chevalia has a vested interest in the future of Ulan , but recognizes neither side as the successor. It is unsure what its goal is, beyond preventing another war.
The Kingdom of Chevalia has never heard from any of the population of Trejibi, but has sent spies and diplomats. None have returned.
Chevalia has a rather standard economy; most economies are compared to it, even. The Valorithian bank honors and handles conversions from other forms of currency into its standards of hackgold, hacksilver, and hackcopper. Chevalia is known for its smiths, which are rumored to be descendants of the operators of First-Forges.
While Chevalia is known for its metal goods, it is not known for its accessible mineral wealth; it often imports metals from
Daero, the island directly north of it. Daero's slave mines have led to a bulk influx of metal, and the agreement comes out profitable. Daero's strange luxuries are often under import bans, however, due to their addictive natures.
Metalworked goods are exported to Daero as part of this trade agreement, along with cloth and alchemical potions. The cloth is often turned into tapestries and used as a currency in Daero, with Chevalia honoring authentic tapestries as currency.
The
Creche of Syll offer educational services for areas in which chapters are present. The majority of education is in the form of apprenticeships, but anyone in the influence of the Creche is able to read, often. Education therefore is rather stratified; villages and hamlets have little education, with towns and cities having decent enough educations. Most education in Chevalia is of a religious bent, with the highest form of education being seer training.
Chevalia's infrastructure is reliant mostly on very calm, well-defended shipping routes. Chevalia has the most internal water-trade of any nation in the Khersos Isles, with the road network being comparatively weak inside its borders. The Chevalian navy allows it to extend its reach across its borders much more efficiently than any road network could.
