Tussarian Empire
Structure
The Tussarian Empire is what most would consider one of the most restrictive countries in The Lands of VeCoastal, a large factor that plays part in this opinion is the command economy practice in place. This allows the singular ruling power, that is the Emperor of the Tussarian Empire to freely control where investment, production and the allocation of capital goods takes place according to economy-wide economic plans and production plans. Essentially meaning that the leader has ownership over any gold or items that are within the country.
Culture
Although due to the economic system in place many traders and business owners perceive the country as oppressive, it has allowed the emperor to reform the country leading to citizens of the empire having a higher standard of living when compared to other human nations. Limited meritocracy exists, thus allowing commoners to advance on the social ladder through merit rather than heritage.
Additionally, the Empire has a slave reform that grants rights to slaves, but only for humans and not other species. Prior to the restrictive slave-trading policies, thirty years ago, it would have been easy to purchase a slave who would obey any order and who would live and die at a command. Nowadays, slaves are often those who are in urgent need of a lot of money, thus selling themselves in exchange for an upfront payment.
Nevertheless, even for the slave trade, the empire’s laws still apply, dictating the lease duration and many other terms and conditions. While nothing can stop a master from forcing orders onto his slaves, said master will have to pay their families a compensation fee in the event of severe injuries or death. On top of that, for severe injuries, the master has to notify the relevant agencies and be prepared to incur a hefty penalty in accordance to the reason for injury. The slave trade in the Empire has been declining because of the strict laws, especially when the Sanguinary Emperor removed several noble houses on the grounds of abusing their slaves.
Magic in the Tussarian Empire is also not shunned, although uncommon. The emperor being a man who would go to any lengths to defeat their rival country, Levial Theocracy, created a multitude of magical schools that would assist those with magical potential, with the idea that these individuals would eventually bolster the power of the empire. The empire considers magic to be only one field of study. It is a discipline/skill that will become a pillar of the future empire, and so convenient and inconvenient things are taught together. These schools are focused on producing magic users from their own society and thus is a institute that only citizens of the empire are allowed to participate in, people who attend these schools are not common in the empire, but the presence of these schools is well known knowledge in the country. The system is run by an overarching body known as the Tussarian Institute of Magic, the most prestigious school is named Ultima Magica and has produced many promising arcane arts users such as Cornelia Princabality, Latieh Iprohatah and Rahmin Jungengar.
The emperor is also extremely aware of the benefit of guilds in a city and the jobs/skills they can produce. Therefore he personally met with the Wandering Governors in order to establish The Rivia Wanderers Guild, allowing the operation of wanderers based in his country.
Assets
The empire has invested countless resources into developing a strong military force in order to fight against the ever evolving Levial Theocracy military. Their soldiers are easily some of the most well trained infantry on the continent and a singular man is capable of easily duelling many opponents at once. With the assistance of the many magical schools scattered throughout the capital city of Rivia, the empires military force features many capable Magical Binders, giving them a versatile attack and a strong defence.
History
Much like The Isles of Isaiath, The Lands of VeCoastal were originally ruled by a singular king, the Kingship being held by House Moses and then followed by House Ashton. Due to the sheer size of VeCoastal issues would arise when a singular family would attempt to rule over the continent, particular kingdoms would rebel and form their own countries and the idea of a king would fade away, countries such as Eyelon Oligarchy and The Sanctus Republic would become more prevalent. The empire was the capital of the fallen kings and kept the same feudal type system for countless years after the continent was dissected into multiple countries.
Overtime the ruling family houses would slowly shift the feudal system into an empire, with the many noble houses being considered advisors and would still possess a large amount of influence over political decisions and the future of the country. The overwhelming power that the family in emperor status would possess though was too tempting for those with great ambitions, leading to the empire becoming a game of political musical chairs in which assassinations and betrayal were common. This was the case for many years until the current emperors mother was murdered due to this game of thrones. Hagan Vogt Leonhardt would proceed to participate in this game for the first time with revenge on his mind, on his way to assuming the emperor position, he would take great risks and even betray close friends and family members. He would wipe out the large majority of ancient great houses such as House Moses in order to achieve his goal.
