Following the False Hydra attack on
Cunningham that was orchestrated by cultists of
Bhaal, the vast majority of the Order of the Gauntlet and most of the citizens of Cunningham were wiped out. Matters were made even worse by the fact that all that heard the Hydra's call forgot about the very existence of those who were eaten by it. As a result, the leader,
Lord Arilosa Tarkos and his right hand man
Father Imdarr Relvonder left the town to and abandoned the Gauntlet to instead go live in
Norbury.
Thankfully, the young squire
Ernest Stoutblade took a leadership position in the town following the advice of some renowned adventurers. With many monetary donations, Ernest has managed to start to turn things around for Cunningham.
The Order of the Gauntlet
Many paladins and clerics of
Tyr and
Helm have joined this organization, seeing it as—finally—a way of making common cause against the evils abroad in the world. The Order of the Gauntlet is ready to lash out the moment evil acts, and not a moment before. When evil breaks laws, agreements, or commonly accepted codes of conduct, the Gauntlet strikes hard and fast, without waiting for the blessings of distant temples or the permission of rulers. Evil must be met in the field and smashed, or it will swiftly overcome all.
The Order of the Gauntlet is a dedicated, tightly knit group of like-minded individuals driven by religious zeal or a finely honed sense of justice. Friendship and camaraderie are important to members of the Order of the Gauntlet, and they share a trust and a bond normally reserved for siblings. Like highly motivated soldiers, members of the Order of the Gauntlet seek to become the best at what they do and look forward to testing their mettle.
Beliefs
Faith is the greatest weapon against evil—faith in one’s god, one’s friends, and one’s self.
Battling evil is an extraordinary task that requires extraordinary strength and bravery.
Punishing an evil act is just. Punishing an evil thought is not.
Goals
To be armed, vigilant, and ready to smite evil, enforce justice, and enact retribution. This means identifying evil threats such as secretive power groups and inherently evil creatures, watching over them, and being ready to attack the moment they misbehave.
Necromancy
Those who practice necromancy outside of the Gauntlet are evil heretics that must be brought to justice. The Gauntlet monitors the Realms for rumors of necromancy, so that they may swiftly investigate the claims and punish those who participate in this illegal activity.
The Gauntlet oversee legal resurrection. This is quite a rare event, as the body usually decomposes quickly (unless a cleric or paladin is asked to cast a gentle repose spell, which comes at a high cost).
Holy Tomb
At
The Cathedral of the Gauntlet, located in Cunningham, there exists a holy tomb where important figures are preserved indefinitely. Kings and Queens of old rest here, waiting to perhaps one day be resurrected with powerful magic. This ancient tomb predates the Age of Chaos. The key to this place is magically bound to the Righteous Hand,
Lord Arilosa Tarkos , leader of the Order of the Gauntlet.
