Personal history

On the last day of May  in the year 213 AF, Baron Emory was leading his barony's regiments on the road to Nyallshold.  When the Colian forces fully engaged the Imessian army, it was less than an hour before the rout took hold of the invaders.  Emory's companies were clustered in the middle of the column of march, and as the dozens, then hundreds of knights, soldiers and animals began to flee before the Colian attack, his men began to waiver.  Emory dismounted from his charger and took a stance in the middle of the column, shouting to the fleeing men to stand and stop panicking.  When he realized that his efforts were in vain, he tried to position his own troops in a manner that would shield a general retreat.  About 60 of his best mounted knights gathered around the Baron (his own son and heir, Hanley am Toricki, among them) and they formed a double line of heavy cavalry across the rough and rapidly deteriorating road.  These knights fought for nearly two hours against what some witnesses believed was as many as 200 Colian light cavalry.  First their mounts were killed, then the knights themselves fell to the relentless Colian attack.  Only seven of those brave knights survived the battle, and all have stated many times that Baron Emory and his son died bravely and with great honor as the rest of the army broke and ran.
