Heavy Cavalry

In the Arian military, Heavy Cavalry is often referred to as Shock Cavalry.  These are mounted knights, often in full plate armor on barded warhorses carrying heavy iron-tipped lances or spears and trained to charge into enemy formations at full speed.  A Company of Heavy Cavalry (also sometimes called Heavy Horse) charging headlong into a line of infantry is a terrifying experience.

Composition

Manpower

Companies of up to 100 Knights, and Regiments of up to ten Companies.

Equipment

Heavy warhorse (Grandes preferred), sometimes with barding. Plate armor, shield, conical helm with face guard, 5 days fodder and rations.

Weaponry

Long sword, knife, hand axe, two 9' iron-tipped lances/spears

Structure

Companies led by a Knight Captain of Cavalry with several Knight Corporals.  Regiments led by a Knight Commander of Cavalry, assisted by several adjutant Captains of Cavalry.

Tactics

Shock charge into enemy formations, rear guard actions, reserve formations to exploit a broken line or retreating enemy cavalry units.
