County of Balmor

The County of Balmor is a division of the Kingdom of Aria, located in the central region of the realm along the banks of the Arial River. The current Count is Mathis Boucher.   Balmor is a small county, but its location at a key river junction in the center of the Kingdom makes it an important one. The County has a population of 90,000 souls and is one of the richer Counties in the Kingdom. Balmor is considered the "dairyland" of Aria, with more cheese produced and sold here than in the rest of the Kingdom, combined. The cattle population is significantly larger than the "people" population. Balmor is also well known for its beer and ale production, and for a strain of wheat that is world famous for making a fine, sweet bread. This wheat has become known as Balmor Wheat, and commands a high price at any market it can be found at. Fine horses, beef and fish are also produced in abundance.   Balmor controls the junction of the Arial River and the Carul River. There are several key castles immediately on the river that have the ability to limit or harrass traffic moving both upriver and down. The largest and most powerful of these castles is Balmor House, the Count's seat of authority and primary residence.  The County, and the Count, have a particularly difficult relationship with its neighbor, the County of Killmor.  Though the border between the counties is less than 40 miles, it is a problematic stretch of land.  There is very little law here, and small, sometimes deadly raids are conducted across the border to steal cattle.  Count Boucher has been less than active in his defense of his holdings here, and ahs received much criticism for it.  Boucher's close association with the Count of Dunmor has not endeared him to the Count of Killmor, Domin Laclaire.
